Xrays before TTC?
One of my dr's said that he would NOT suggest me having any xrays across my abdomen (like for my spine) if I plan to have babies - I said we don't plan on it for another year or two, but he said still.
I asked my PCP about it today and he said so long as I'm not pregnant now or planning on it like right away, then no problem.
I'm supposed to have xrays in about a week - should I cancel? I don't think there's an alternate option though

Re: Xrays before TTC?
I've had xrays this year, but not where my repro. organs are so I guess that's what the dr. was saying.
Thanks!

Re: Xrays before TTC?
I had an MRI done to my lower spine about a month before I got my BFP. As long as you are not pregnant, there shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Xrays before TTC?
Sorry to crash ttc board, im an xray tech.
Woman are born with all the eggs you will ever carry, men reproduce sperm every 24 hours. Thats probable why hes advising no xrays to the abdomen.
but no woman could go through life with out xrays if they need to have them.
xrays are only bad to have if you are currently pregnant, especially 1st trimester. 3rd can be done but not advised b/c its just like a born baby having an xray.
When you get an xray to the body you want your uterus covered from radation, but if the body part that needs to be seen is in that spot you cant. The amount of exposure from xray is minimal, chest xray is the same amt of radiation as if flying to california from ny or smoking a cigarette.
Cat scans are the highest form of radiation, i had one 2 weeks prior to getting pregnant.
If you have any question ill be happy to answer them.
eta: i just wanted to add.. your exposed to radiation everyday of your life just by going outside, flying in a plane, if your the foundation in your house has a crack, going up in altitude like colorado.

Re: Xrays before TTC?
I have to have a spinal xray and they couldn't use the lead jacket that would use at a dentist's or other doctor's office, but he said, just as long as I am not pregnant, then not to worry... it won't do anything to you...

Ahhhh, thank you. I hadn't thought about the whole "we're born with all our eggs" thing! Yeah, I think that's why my doc maybe mentioned it. Thanks so much for the info!
