Re: when to introduce finger foods, how to tell DC is ready?

I started DS on the teething cookies around 6.5 months, but I hated them. He'd break it in his mouth and then have this huge piece in his mouth and start gagging.

Instead, I started giving him Gerber Puffs (they melt in their mouth) and then I'd give him half of a half of a bagel to gnaw on. I also give him Zwieback toast. Little by little, I'll start trying new things with thicker textures.

I started with the puffs since they dissolve in thier mouth. I think I started on them at 7 or 8 months. I hated those teething biscuits since they broke and were such a mess.

After the puffs, I started with bananas, avocados, cereal bars, stuff like that.

You can also try Cheerios - Ali is addicted to them Chat Icon Chat Icon

We have been trying to give a little bit of everything. DH tried feeding her parts of a banana and stuff like that.

I think we started around 7 months...tried cheerios, puffs and then little bits of whatever I was eating and now she won't eat any baby food at all!

Re: when to introduce finger foods, how to tell DC is ready?

I wouldn't recommend teething biscuits because in my opinion they are a chocking hazard! They suck on them until a huge piece breaks off and they wind up choking on it. I would start with the gerber puffs. They dissolve in their mouth so even if the baby puts one in their mouth and doesn;t chew it right away, it will dissolve and not pose a choking hazard. Try those and then move to cheerios. I used to break the cheerios into 1/4 and gradually increase the size when I could see that Jack was chewing them. Good luck!

you should have seen DD with cherrios, we almost peed our pants, she had no clue what to do them, She just flicked them off her trayChat Icon

I would say my dd isn't ready yet.

I did get those baby safe feeding bag things, I am going to put some frozen peaches in there this weekend and see what she does. With the food in the bag thing, i don't have to worry about her choking. Makes mommy feel better :)

The instruction say you can put anything in there-even candy-not that I would do that.

We are going to try frozen bananas next, then teething biscuits, then some melons like honeydue and cantelope. I want to also try to put in there pieces of cooked chicken, beef. Supposedly, as the instructions read, it teaches them to chew.

I have a friend who put french fries in thereChat Icon
