Re: YAY CVS!
Does anyone know if they will still be selling smoking cessation products that contain nicotine? I've always found it incongruent for a pharmacy to sell cigarettes!

Re: YAY CVS!
I think this is great but I have to admit I wondered why they would give up not only the money they make on the actual tobacco but also those people who smoke money in general. If you smoke you will go to Rite Aid or Duane Reade or wherever instead so you can get your prescription, makeup and ciggs...kwim?
I agree with whoever said this is likely linked to something else like their partnership w/ insurance companies.Business is about money after all,,..

It's crazy they will lose $2 BILLION a year from doing this. Kudos to them!
I'm sure they'll make it up with people who switch to CVS after an announcement of this kind. Maybe I'm jaded but I can't see a company giving up that kind of $$$
Thats right. It is a bit questionable in my opinion. They have to make up the money somehow.
Get ready to pay $8.00 for a bottle of shampoo!

YAY CVS!
Do they get a tax incentive or anything for stopping the sell of these products? Just curious. No way they'd take such a hit financially.

i do have mixed feelings about the news because i'm not sure what triggered it. and as others have said, it's a business, after all.

Re: YAY CVS!
okay I feel very different. cigs are legal yes? healthy or not. and the store has a right to sell what they want I do understand that. and change has to start somewhere. but personally.....I think its just stupid...or perhaps better word....dangerous..because its a slippery slope. perhaps I would feel different if they stop selling beer and wine as well.....or doritos....lol jk about the doritos but I think you know what I mean. if they do not want to sell products that are proven dangerous then stop selling those items as well. but aaahh then where does it stop?
I personally think cvs is all over the place a few months ago I had to show my id to buy nail polish remover!!! then they changed their policy. and we have to show id for Sudafed okay I get that.
but really I wanna go to the checkout with cigs, beer, doritos, Sudafed and nail polish remover and tell the manager I am gonna party in the parking lot :)
I am super being snarky...but some of my feelings are real. let the government set down limits ie...smokes and booze in liquor stores only if that's what it takes.

I thought about the alcohol thing too but I don't think CVS sells it. At least I don't remember them selling it when I worked there many years ago.

my dad was watching something last night about this very debate.
And the argument was basically that even 1 cigarette is damaging...
1 bag or toritos is not. Smoking in moderation isnt going to help, where as doritos in moderation is not hurting you. Or something along those lines! lol

Read recent Surgeon General report:
Nothing has changed in the 50 years since his 1st report: smoking is still the #1 cause of preventable illness. It affects each and every part of the body. In other words, none of these other things that are bad for you are as worse as tobacco!

They are going to lose money, possibly 2 bil in revenue however they are planning on more healthcare products like expanding their minute clinic and working with local health systems/insurance companies to see patients.

YAY CVS!
With the changes that are happening in healthcare, CVS is heading in the right direction. There is (and will be) greater pushes for wellness and for people to be more accountable for their health. I definitely believe this is tied to insurance companies (they are the big pushers behind patient engagement and accountability).

Re: YAY CVS!
I think what it comes down to is that they are a huge corporation trying to make money and stay ahead when the world is saturated with pharmacies just like them. So they decided to be proactive and take a step in the right direction and stop selling cigarettes. Yes, they are completely legal, but as a company, they decided to no longer sell them. They could decide to no longer sell Pantene if they wanted to, that's their right as a business .
I'm sure if this doesn't somehow work to their advantage, they will start selling them again...Also, as the economy has gotten worse, CVS has continued to thrive and grow as a company, so they must be doing something right.

YAY CVS!
From my understanding they are trying to focus on the "health" part of pharmacy so I think this is a great move. Flu shots are offered there and I can bet they want to expand and maybe have doctors onsite for stuff so I can see why they made this move. Kudos to CVS.
