Yellow discharge from eye in infant
I took Derek tot he dr. today because he was very congested and had a fever. The ped. said he has an ear infection. I also noticed that he had some yellow discharge in the corner of his eye but nothing bad and the ped. said it was probably from the cold.
He just woke up from his nap and it was there again but pretty much like gluing his eye shut. Can infants get pink eye? The white part of his eye is not pink though

of course i don't nkow for sure, but it sounds like it might be the cold. IMO i would use a warm cash cloth to gently clean off baby's eye...

Re: Yellow discharge from eye in infant
Yup its most likely pink eye or another bacterial infection. DS just went through this. I thought it was from the virus that he was getting over but nope, pink eye it was. My ped prescribed Vagamox eye drops and it was gone in a couple of days.
ETA: The inside of the eye does not need to be pink...DS had a little pinkish and dark coloring around his eyes.

Re: Yellow discharge from eye in infant
this has actually happened to ME in the past! its not that uncommon for there to be a shortened/elongated tube (can't remember which it is) that allows sinus/congestion drainage to enter the eye.
It first occurred in elementary school. I blew my nose and my eye drained too. I remember being afraid that my eye was going to fall out . Since then, it's only happened a few times - onlly when i'm severely congested. taking a decongestant clears it up for me, but obviously, you're not going to give that to an infant.
i hope he's feeling better soon!

That happened to Damien a lot when he had ear infections. I would call the ped because I thought he had pink eye and it was always an ear infection.

DS had a clogged tear duct for almost a year. It was there since birth though so that may not be what your DS has. His eye was crusty several times per day and he had a lot of yellow discharge. It was always worse when he had a cold. Eventually it opened up on its own.

Re: Yellow discharge from eye in infant
This happened to my sons a few weeks ago. Ped said it was from their ear infection and mentioned it could have signs of a sinus infection also. After a few days of antibiotics, it went away. I cleaned gently with a warm, damp cloth.

Yes, DS had this FOREVER it seemed like. There was yellowish guk in the corners of his eyes for months, you just have to keep massaging it and it should go away on its own.

My son is 15 months and still has it. It went away for a tiny bit and then came back. It usually only comes back when he is sick. I went to a pediatric opthamalogist and they said nto to worry until 2 and just massage the area.
