Eye goop on infant
DS will be 3 weeks on Saturday. He has always had a little more goop on the left eye but the past few days it's yellow and there's a good amount of it. I called the doc and they said warm compresses and if it doesn't clear up in a few days to bring him in. Just wondering if anyone else had this?

Re: Eye goop on infant
I used to work for a pedatrician in Commack and this was a very common problem. Usually just with frequent warm compresses it goes away. She rarely had to prescribe antibiotics.

Re: Eye goop on infant
DS had this, I just took a warm wet cottom ball and wiped it out of his eye. When I went to the doctor, they said I was doing the right thing.
I think it was from his tear ducts cleaning out.
It lasted 1-2 weeks.

Re: Eye goop on infant
yes, i feared it was conjunctivitis but it was a clogged tear duct. it did stay crusty for over a month, but went away on its own. i gently wiped off with a warm wet face cloth a few times a day.

Re: Eye goop on infant
DS always had this, but it stopped at around 3 mos. We were told its a clogged tear duct that wasn't fully open yet. Its very common.

Re: Eye goop on infant
Its a blocked tear duct. For most babies, it clears up within a few weeks. Wash your hands, cover your finger with a tissue, and wipe away the goop. Then use a washcloth to apply pressure to the inside corner of the eye (where the duct is). This will help to open it up.

Re: Eye goop on infant
My DD had this too when she was born. The ped said that newborns tear ducts sometimes get clogged and it's very common. It resolves itself. The ped said they wouldn't prescribe anything for it or be concerned about it until she was 1 year old. It cleared up within about 3-5 days and never happened again.

Re: Eye goop on infant
more than likely a clogged tear duct. DD had this for a while on and off and then it went away
