I told DH. We don't know if we should take the bumpers out now or what.
He's fine during the night, but, plays with the bumpers while falling asleep.Chat Icon

I would probably take them out. Why chance it happening again.

personally I'm not against bumpers, BUT my DD doesn't bother with them. If he's climbing under them , just take them out.

I had bumpers until DD started using it as a step stool to try to climb then they were immediately removed. Why take a chance?

I put the bumpers in their cribs around 6 months took them out around 8 months and then put them back in again around 10 months and then took them out again around 12 months. Jack kept hugging them and I would constantly find them in the corner of the crib with their face in the bumper. Now I have no issues.

I would just take them out. You might have some issue with your son getting an arm or leg stuck between the bars, but it only happens rarely and I can tell when that happens with my boys now by the way they cry.

I would without a doubt take them out. I took them out when Jack was smushing his face against them. I'm too nervous for that - and I felt - why keep them in just for the crib to look nice (when really - no one besides me and DH see them)

He smacked his head a few times the first couple of night - but I didn't care - I'd rather that then anything else. Now, he sleeps just fine without them.

Sorry, everyone knows that I think bumpers are a death trap (slightly dramatic, I know)

I would definitely take them out. I personally would worry too much at night if this happened, eventhough it would probably be okay.Chat Icon

I removed my son's bumpers for this very reason. He did fine w/o it. I really don't see a need for them.

What about the breathable ones - not thick enough for them to smother but enough to keep their arms and legs in the crib.

We don't use ours for that reason no matter how much I love them - I got the breathable ones b.c she was putting her legs and arms out when she tries to crawl and rolls around- we haven't used them yet hough

I have nothing against bumpers but if I was nervous about it and the only way I was going to sleep good at night was if i took them out.......then I would. See how his handles it with out them. I think he'll be fine with or with out. But YOU need to have piece of mind! And that's the bottom line.

I was going to suggest the breathable ones too. That would have been enough to give me a heartattack too Chat Icon

I have found Cailen's head smushed into them - a part of me wants to take them out, but then I'm thinking - would he have smashed his head then?

So, they are still in there.... Chat Icon

I have a hard time with bumpers too - DD has fallen a few times after standing in her crib and the bumper cushioned her head - but I also have the fear that she'll smush her face into them when she sleeps.

the worrying never ends.Chat Icon

We took ours out when DS started rolling over in his sleep. Got too paranoid that he was going to suffocate.

He has bumped his head a couple of times that we have heard Chat Icon , but he doesn't cry so I assume it doesn't really bother him much! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We found Lucas hugging his bumper one night...something made us go and check on him and I am so thankful that we did. We pulled them right out...but then he kept waking because he would get his arm stuck in between the bar Chat Icon (sorry - it was hilarious to see at 3am but of course he was okay)

Anyway, we got the breathable bumpers for him and so far so good. He never goes near them but I won't put the other back in because I am sure he would grab them again.

I would definitely take them out once the possibility of getting trapped in there exists!

Have you considered the breathable bumpers?

I would take them out. You can always put them back later. DS's crib has the bumpers but he leaves them along. Once he start pulling himself up to stand, they'll come out.

i would get the breathable bumpers at this point. i took olivias out at 5 months and got the breathable and kept them until 11 months when she started to climb them.

Re: Yep! I had a heart attack last night...(? with a poll)

The night I found DS with his head under his bumper was the night we removed the bumpers forever (I did it right there and then- with him asleep in the crib)

Id rather have a child with a few bumps and bruises from banging against crib rails, than a child who dies from suffocation.

Update:

No bumpers tonight!
So Far, So Good.

I told DH we have to be sneakier checking on him now, because he can totally see us. LOL.
The bumpers aren't there to block his view.

Thank You all so much for replying and answering the poll as well.
I do greatly appreciate it.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
