Yet another EBF question...
How long does/did your 3 month old eat for? Joseph is taking only 4 minutes or so from each side about every 3 hours but I know I get about 2 let downs during that time and when he pulls away it's shooting out...normal???

So funny that you should mention this... DH and I got into a huge fight the other night because he was *convinced* Alex wasn't getting enough to eat because she only eats for about 5 minutes on a side... He wanted me to start pumping ALL the time so we could monitor exactly how much she was eating and I refused... I know she's getting enough because I feel the letdown and see her gulping the whole time, and her diapers are still VERY wet, VERY frequently... they just become very efficient!

Thanks girls! Beth - I feel the same as Gadi in a way - I want to pump so I can bottle feed him and make sure he's getting enough... but then I say - he's poopin and peein just perfectly why change it? It's just so amazing that he can get like 5oz in 8 minutes or so.

Danielle, not thar everyone is the same...BUT I get 6oz when I pump for 10 minutes. Plus from what I understand...babies sucking is actually more efficient than the pump.

I say if it isn't broken, then don't fix it!  Besides, babies are much much much better at sucking than the pump... I'm scared if I switch to pumping all the time my supply will decrease because it's not as good at getting the milk out as compared to Alex. So, as much as Gadi is neurotic, as long as she's peeing like a racehorse everyday, I'm not changing a thing!

Alex only ate 5 minutes or so from the beginning. He was an efficient eater and I had a fast let down. I was uncomfortable in the beginning but once I pumped a few times I realized how fast my let down was. As long as others have said as long as the diapers are wet and having bms. I wouldn't worry too much. I had a chart to help me keep track and it really helped ease my mind.

My son was the same way! He would eat sooooo quickly when he BF. We would just say he was an efficient eater. He never took long at all. He would get everything that was in there! He used to only eat on one side during each feeding also. I thought the same thing, but the doctor said that was fine.

thanks! I feel so much better Funny thing is - at night when he's pretty much asleep he'll eat for like 20 mins! I find he eats much longer when he's groggy - I guess it's because he's not sucking as hard?
