Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
My SIL has been getting her hair straightened for a few years now. She pays quite a bit to get it done (over $500). I was asking her about it and she told me that after her hair dries, she still needs to flat iron it to calm the frizz. From what I've read on here, most girls didn't have any frizz problems....or am I reading incorrectly? I thought by getting it done, I wouldn't have the hassle of having to spending the time to style it. Now I'm reconsidering doing it....unless of course, she's just wasting her money.... Straightened girls: can you help clear the confusion for me?

Thanks. I know that top point comes highly recommended from the ladies on here, so that's where I'm going to get it done if I do decide to go through with it.

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
same as Jess- I paid over $600 and my hair still needed to be blown out with a brush
I paid $200 at top point- and my hair is perfect- today all day in the rain- nothing

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
I've been getting my hair JS for about three years, and my best friend for six....she pays $600+, I usually pay $100-$200 - both of us NEVER had to use a hot iron to flaten out the frizz. As a matter of fact, there should be NO FRIZZ whatsoever - even when walking outside in the rain, getting drenched.

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
Can you have this done if your hair is highlighted or if you have fine hair??
Just wondering??

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
No...no frizz here at all.
As for fine & highlighted hair...well I wouldn't recommend it but you'd have to ask a pro to be sure. People do it, but they don't recommend you highlight your hair before/after the process. Some people do it anyway and it's fine because their hair is strong enough and resilient. The combination of having fine hair and having it highlighted may not be a good one for this process. I would check with a professional.
Generally speaking, people with curly hair have thick and/or coarser hair so that's why it hold up.

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
You can't touch it at all for three days after, right? So if I get it done in the summer - can't put in ponytail or anything right? have to go to beach with it hanging down?

For three days you cannot get it wet, pull it back or anything (not even tuck your hair behind your ears) - so I would avoid the gym, beach, etc for the three days...after that, you're free to do whatever you want.

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
I get it done every year.
The first time you get it done I think its still a little wavy but with the next applications it dries straight & no frizz.
For me anyway...

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
So, when you shower in the first 3 days, what do you do? Shower cap? And does this cause the possibility of kinks? I made an appt for this Saturday which I think I am keeping. I am so nervous!!
those who have been to Top Point, I got directions on Map Quest. As far as parking, do you know if it should be past the place (and what side of the road is it if you are coming from the East of the LIE? I REALLY am freaking out about that (if any of you can't already tell.)
Also, if you had an appt, did they start pretty close to that time, or did you have to wait? (I'm asking b/c I have to be somewhere that night.)
Thanks for putting up with my incessant questions!!
Hey, Mrswask - wanna come with?

Pam- first you better go-
ok- what you your directions say- I took the Van wick to Northern Blvd east - then made a right on main street and a left on a numbered ave and a right on Prince?
there is a lot on the left hand side right after you pass the place- it's on the second floor- so go by the street numbers- it was hard for me to see at first - the shop is on the left
as far a showering- I have a system- I stand in the shower with the bath part running and wash- it's kind of gross- but no shower cap-
I was 20 minutes late and they were waiting for me

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
Top Point and Hair Village are both very popular places to get it done. But, Top Point offers personal attention, HV does not.

Re: Yet ANOTHER hair straightening question....
I got mine done here on the island for $300. My hair is fine but was really wavy/curly. I still have to blow it out if I want it pin straight. No flat iron thou.
I'm hoping with future application it gets a little straighter. It's still a little wavy. He said if he left it in any longer my hair would have broken off because it's deceivingly fine.
