Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night! UPDATE
Where I live I have to transfer trains one stop before my house. I was reading the whole way home (30 min) and my neck was hurting, but that's not unusual, I had been walking all day and I have disc probs in my neck.
I got off the train and waited 5 minutes for my train, in the 2 minutes it took to get from one station to my station standing on the train I started to feel dizzy and nauseated. At first i thought maybe it was motion sickness from reading on the train, which I don't normally get, but whatever. Then it just got worse, my hearing was going in and out and everything started fading to black just as the doors opened for my stop. I knew I had to get out of the train and I was standing at the door, so I kind of threw myself out of the train onto a pole. I was leaning on the pole, and I was passing out, and I was looking at people, and NO ONE asked me if needed help. I tried to get words out, but it was hard, and I wasn't sure I should tell people I was sick b/c I was afraid they'd just mug me or something (it was late at night). Finally I was able to call my mom and FH and they came to get me. I was in a cold sweat and my BP was very low.
My doc said it could be 100 things. Has anyone else been through this or have any siggestions of what it might be? Maybe something will ring a bell.
Anyway it was SCARY, esp that no one would help me

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night!
Yes! This happens to me! I SO know that feeling.
I passed out twice from it, and caught myself just in time on many occasions, even once today at the nursery looking for flowers. Once I was taken away by ambulance! VERY embarrassing.
I went to the Dr years ago, and was told that it could be just a combination of stimuli, and that your blood pressure drops and your body will regulate yourself. Not such a great explanation. It's very, very scary.

Jenn, I am sorry to hear that. I hope you are feeling better now
I get that feeling although not so severe when I don't eat enough during the day.

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night!
Thanks. I'm feeling better, but not 100%. I'm still pale and a little woozy. I went to the doc. ekg was normal thank god, I just have to wait for blood test results saturday. It was SO scary. it makes me afraid to drive or go on the train or anywhere alone for awhile, in case it happens again
ETA: I get sick when I don't eat also, but that's a more gradual feeling. this went from feeling fine to collapsing against the pole in a matter of 2 minutes.

That's what I meant by not so severe -- I get the need to hold on feeling come over me but nothing like what happened to you. Do you have someone you can commute with?

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night!
I had that a bunch of times last year. I just chalk it up to not feeling well. Even when it was happening a lot, I didn't bother with a doctor. Later on when they were checking out the lump they thought was a tumor in my neck, it came up during the "have you felt dizzy?" portion of the exam.
eta. Sorry you weren't feeling well.

well right now I'm not working, since I just graduated, so i don't need to take the train right now, which is good.

that's what I was going to ask you..sounds like your blood sugar was low..and your BP.
Very scary...I can't believe no one helped you! I always come to the aid of sick passengers on the train or platform.at least get the police or dial 911.
Shame..but I'm glad you are safe.

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night!
yeah, it was weird, a few people looked right at me and ic ouldn;t get words out and no one even asked if I was ok. I guess maybe at that hour of night (it was about 10:30) they thought I was on drugs or something? But I wasn wearing like a sweatshirt over a tee and jeans, and carrying a $400 bag (which i was worried people wouls steal if I asked for help)...I don't think I looked like your typical junkie or anything. Plus I look really young. People think I'm 15 when they see me, so you would think someone would try to help a young person.

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night!
Ahhh I am so sorry that happened to you!
I have very low BP at all times. I carry a granola bar or something similar with me at all times. I may not be physically hungry, but the minute I start feeling dizzy, woozy, sweating, shaking, etc. I eat a little something and I can actually feel my BP spking back up.

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night!
I passed out while I was pregnant and they never found a cause of it, said it could have just been stress and everything like that.
Hopefully all your tests will come out OK and you can use this as an excuse for some extra R&R because maybe your body is just telling you that you need it.

This has happened to me too. I have found that if i sit down - on a bench, chair, and sometimes just the curb! - it will help your blood pressure (blood doesn't need to then pump all the way up...or something like that!)
Feel better!

Re: Yikes! Almost passed out on the train last night! UPDATE
Update: I got back some preliminary blood test results.
What they found was that my blood sugar was extremely low. There's some measure of blood sugar over a 4-6 week period and it was very, very low. What the doc thinks it is, based on my history of getting headaches, dizziness when I don't eat is that I'm hyper-reactive to insulin, so my body clears the sugar and stores it as fat too quickly, causing my blood sugar to drop dramatically. This would solve a lot of things, like why I'm tired and foggy a lot, why I get so sick when I don't eat, and also why I am heavy even though I don't eat more/worse than a normal person. We had been looking into thyroid conditions, etc for the weight thing, but this could really be an answer, because it seems that my body is converting sugar to fat too quickly before I can use/burn it. So this would answer a lot of questions. I have to go for an ICK...3 hour glucose tolerance test to confirm it and then I may have to go on medication, which *****, but I'm so glad I might have an answer. it's better than "we don't know what happenned" because then it can happen again and again at any time. If it's this, I can prevent it with medication and adjusting my eating habits to make sure I'm eating something smalle very few hours.
Thanks for all of the concern and FMs and everyone who asked me how I've been. This may be TMI and more than anyone ever needs to know about my blood sugar, but to me it's such a relief to have an ANSWER for once.

I'm glad they found something! Maybe this was a blessing in disguise because it made you go to the Dr, and now you found an underlying problem for the symptoms you have been experiencing! Feel better!
