Re: You and your DH/DW/SO..difference of opinion politically?

Heh

I remember when I was dating my hubby - I lived with two Irishmen and a practically live in Englishman. Not a single one of them could vote, of course. They’d argue politics from a foreigner’s opinion.

My hubby would stay silent. He and I may disagree on a few things but even back then I shut him pretty quickly with …

“Like any of us care what you think? You can’t vote so you have no right to B!tch. You don’t like it, then go back to your country and leave mine alone!”

(Due to the world being so PC, I could/would never say this to anyone else, since I’d be burned for having my own opinion and voicing it. Still if you’re gonna live with me, you have to know how I really feel)

Rough love? Harsh? Sure. The only thing keeping him from getting citizenship is himself. So I have no pity for him. He also has said people he likes not voting/jury duty. Its his choice.

I once skipped my vote (don’t know why, Since I used absentee vote on my honeymoon!) and I knew I had no right to make a single complaint. In my house voting is a privilege. You have no rights to complain if you don’t vote. Same goes for Jury duty. They are hand in hand the way I was raised.

when we first met - he didn't really care, but if asked - it would probably not be as similar as he is today to me. I have shown him the light Chat Icon

We talk about political philosophy and values. Haha Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . On some issues, we are different. Sometimes I feel bad disagreeing, but he likes disagreement.

One of us tends more toward social liberal values, while the other tends more toward libertarian values Chat Icon. But we've been learning from each other and moving toward each other...which I think is good...in our case.

I agree you shouldn't complain if you didn't vote... but I believe voting is a civic duty of all citizens. You have a duty to stay infomed to the extent practical and take part in the democratic process.

Voting is a duty -- complaining is a privilege! Chat Icon

We have differing points on some issues, and similiar views on other issues. We are both registered in opposite political parties, tho.
