you know what REALLY ticks me off?
seeing a woman who can BARELY WALK with the help of a CANE getting out of her CAR and shuffling into a store.
i cannot imagine what her driving abilities are but unless she has a custom made car for driving with her hands i am afraid for everyone else who is on the road at the same time as she is.
ETA: this woman looked to be about 80 - i am sure i would have had a different reaction had she been younger

Re: you know what REALLY ticks me off?
Well, after my first surgery, my left leg was a mess. I could barely walk, but my right leg was just fine to drive.

Re: you know what REALLY ticks me off?
My mother has MS & uses a cane or a walker to help her walk. It's mostly for balance purposes so she does not fall forward & she can move faster. She has been cleared by her doctors as able to drive.

My mother also has MS and before it affected her sight, she drove a car with hand controls. They are installed for free in American cars. No legs needed.

Re: you know what REALLY ticks me off?
My aunt is 80% paralyzed in one and is perfectly capable of driving with her hand controls. she drives better than my uncle who isnt handicap.
Unless you saw the woman driving like a maniac, I wouldnt judge.

oy. i didn't realize i was being judgmental. last i checked i was allowed to feel afraid and pizzed off when i perceived something as being scary and unsafe.
now we are judging perceptions as well?
i totally understand that there are people in this world who do not have full control of their lower limbs and are able to drive safely.
however, from what i saw of how this woman was walking (or shuffling, rather) it seemed that not only would she have difficulty manipulating her leg well enough to drive, but that her reaction time would be compromised as well.

Re: you know what REALLY ticks me off?
My DH drags his legs when he walks. He uses crutches. His custom-installed hand controls work rather well.
