Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
All I can offer is
No matter how well off you are, no matter how much you save, despite how much you plan.
You are never "ready" for a baby, but somehow things always work out!
Your DH will come around- I promise.
Enjoy this time, and HAH 9 months

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
First off
Secondly, good for you for staying calm and the unexpected situation. All I can say is you will NEVER be financially ready for a baby. You WILL make it work, you may not have all the answers now, but it will work out in the end.
Pregnancy, especially and unecpected one is hard for people to deal with. We planned ours and for a few months DH was "off"! Its life changing and a lot for someone to handle/grasp especially if you weren't mentally prepared for it.
Give him some time, take care of yourself and in a few months you will see things will work themselves out!
My mother always said, a Spanish saying, "Children are born with a loaf of bread under their arms"............Meaning, you will make things work financially and although at times things might be rough, you will survive it!

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
I agree with the pp. Both my parents told me, you're never ever ever going to have "enough" to have a baby....but people do it every day and they manage to make it work. DH and I are nowhere near where we want to be financially right now, savings-wise, but personally it was the right time for us to bring a child into our world together. Will it be tight? Sure. But I don't know anyone who doesn't have it tight moneywise even when they are "set" financially. But we can't let that worry take over...it will all work itself out.

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
First, congratulations!!!!!
Next, you will never be financially able to have a baby. You will always have something that 'could' take that money. However, you will make it work. You have 10 months to scrimp and save, and pay off any bills you have. (I know, sometimes easier said than done).
Just take everything one day at a time, and enjoy the thought of your new family!!!

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
I think pregnancy is the perfect moticator to start getting things doen. If yours is taking care of finances-do it! You could probaboly take on a weekend job for a few months until you get uncomfortable. So could you DH. It will all work out. Good luck!

This is EXACTLY what i was going to say...
The time will never be 'perfect' for your baby to come into the world - however, as long as there are two loving parents involved, that is all you need.

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
first of all-- congratulations!
Secondly, you have a lot of time to prepare for the baby's arrival-- and really, the first year (from what I understand), the baby is not even that expensive. Of course there is stuff you need-- but you can borrow stuff, and you have showers where people give you the things you need.
In the time before the baby comes-- you can also get your finances in order. If you have decent jobs, no matter what your situation-- if you have enough money coming in-- there have got to be ways to cut spending and try to put some money away.

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
First of all congratulations!!!!
One thing I have learned that it is never a pefect time to get pregnant.
Can I tell you my pregnancy was quite the surprise. I had no real plans to have a child and low and behold a positive pregnancy test. I was shocked for quite awhile.
Now I am very excited.
Also to add to all of this, my company is going through a restructuring and layoffs are coming at the end of the year.
Talk about timing.
I am beyond freaked, butI am trying to be calm and am starting to realize that there is a reason for all of this.
I am going to try to make my situation work and I am sure you and your DH can make yours work.
I say all this to say, that is seems like there is always going to be something and we basically have no control over it.
Best of luck and vent all you want.

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
I know exactly what you're going through. DH and I are in some MAJOR credit card debt, and my goal was to at least have made a significant dent in it before DD comes along. Well, she had her own plans and I got pregnant my first month on fertility meds. I was ready to be in it "for the long haul", but I have faith that what's meant to be will be.
Everything will be ok, you will make it work!

Re: Your words of Encouragement Needed
Congratulations!
If you sit down with a pen and paper and try to figure out how to afford a baby you will never feel 100% ready. But I swear (and I did not believe people when they said it to me) when you have to make it work, it just does. The decisions you make become so affected, and you get more and more creative with your finances as time goes on.
