Zantac Moms
I just started Sasha on Zantac yesterday and I have a few questions.
When did you see an improvement in your DC?
Does your DC get used to it? Sasha seems to spit a little bit out and I wonder if it is still effective since she is not getting the proper dosage.
When did you find was the best time to give it? I tried before and after feeding so far-- but the spitting up is inevitable. So, I am wondering if she is even getting it.
How long has your child been taking it?
thanks!!!

Re: Zantac Moms
For my ds... i noticed a difference in 24 hours.
Ds has been on it since he was 4 weeks old and he is still on it at 10 months old.
We give it to him in his bottle. We put 1 ounce of formula in a 4 ounce bottle, with the medicine in it. You don't want to put too much formula because you want to guarantee he gets it all in him.

Re: Zantac Moms
I haven't really seen an improvement. DS still spits up a lot and will still spit up at least an hour after a feeding. He has been on it 1 month. I give it to him before a feeding. At first, he hated it and screamed when I gave it to him. Now, he doesn't mind it at all.

Re: Zantac Moms
zantac never worked for Alexa. My GI specialist at Yale says its one of the most INNEFECTIVE medications for reflux, he doesn't know why so many peds prescribe it. It is also peppermint flavored which is CONTRAINDICATED in people with acid reflux which makes no sense to me.......
She is on prevacid and was a new baby after 2 doses!

Re: Zantac Moms
DS has been on it about 2 weeks now and at first I saw a difference right away.... now not so much anymore. He still spits up a ton I notice more with the formula bottle we give him at night. We give DS .5ml twice a day, morning and night.

Re: Zantac Moms
DS started it when he was 3 months old. He HATED it...I have no idea why it is mint flavor...gross! I put it in his first bottle of the day and then his second to last bottle of the day. It took about 3 days for me to notice an improvement but it has for sure helped him. Good luck!!!

I was told that with all reflux medication you are suppose to give it on an empty stomach (at least 1.5 hours after they eat) and not feed them for at least 30 min afterwards for it to be absorbed effectively......

This was the ONLY way we would get him to take it so the doctor said it was fine. It was kind of hard to time becuase I never know exactly when he willl want to eat.

Re: Zantac Moms
I was also told to give it on an empty stomach so that's what we do. I honestly haven't noticed any change but DS never did spit up a lot.
He spit it out a lot at first but once he got used to it he stopped doing that. He loves it actually.

Re: Zantac Moms
My DS just started on it 2 days ago also!
He spits it out a lot too... I just figure whatever he gets, he gets.
He doesn't have a spit up problem though - it sounds like he "swallows" a lot when he isn't eating. And he is really fussy...
My Ped has him on 1.6 mL. He is just about 8 weeks and 11 lbs.
I have been giving it to him right before his bottle. I feel like he needs something to wash the taste away after I give it to him. My Ped didn't give me instructions on when to give it to him...

WE did the same thing. Hoenstly, I didn't see much of an improvement at all with it. I felt that Axid worked better for us

Re: Zantac Moms
I am pretty sure Zantac should be given on an empty stomach. It didn't work for us, it made DD worse. Then she developed an allergy to it. Hopefully it will start to work soon!
