Zofran and Insurance Situation-Help Needed, LONG
As I have mentioned before, I am taking Zofran for severe m/s. I had my last two pills on Friday and I called in my prescription and after the little automated response said "Your prescription will be refilled" I promptly take the last one.
As I was getting off the bus at 5:30, I get a phone call from Walgreens saying that they can't refill my prescription til next Friday, 10/28 because my insurance won't let them.
Now, I then call Oxford and they say that I can only get 30 pills in a 23 day span. I nicely explain that the prescription was written for 30 pills and I was to take it 4x per day which means my original prescription which was filled on 10/4 should have been used up a week later, I found I didn't need them 4x per day, but I did need it at least 2x! Oxford gives me another phone number and tells me have my doctor call them and MAYBE they can get me the prescription earlier, but it will take 24-48 hours. I call my doctor and the service says they can't page her for this type of problem and to call on TUESDAY.
Now, yesterday, I was ok. But today I am vomitting every couple of hours and it is the same painful type of vomitting that I had pre-Zofran.
What do I do???

Re: Zofran and Insurance Question-LONG
I would call your doctor back and demand that her service pages her. Clearly this is an emergency - you are vomitting and without your medicine.

Re: Zofran and Insurance Question-LONG
Can you ask the pharmacy how much it costs to pay out of pocket if thats even an option?
I would call the service AGAIN and tell them now your throwing up...exagerrete ....and you need the Dr to call and get an override.
Thing is it wont be till tommorow anyway, the isnurance company is closed today Im sure.
Is it clearly written on your bottle 4x a day?
If it is, then when you get he NEW RX....once its cleared up have the dr make sure to get an authorization for you to have more the the inusurance reccomended dosage. Thats what we do at my insurance company I work for. We just have each months authorized so you can get it...

if you cant pay out of pocket then i would demand that they page her. if u r that sick she may be able to prescribe something else u can get right away. tell them u r extremely sick and it is an emergency.

For 30 pills, it is $889! Which is why insurance doesn't want to cover it. So, the pharmacy didn't even ASK if I wanted it filled anyway.
I have the original box and it CLEARLY says 4x per day.
I just left a message on the service for my doctor.

I was thinking maybe you could just buy 3-5 of them? My pharmacy has let me do that on weekends when insurance problems happened.

Unfortunetly you can't with Zofran, they come in packages at least mine did. I'd call your dr.'s office tomorrw and ask them to give you reglan or something to tie you over until you get Zofran refil from your insurance.

i agree...in fact, have your hubby call...have him say you can't call b/c you've positioned yourself firmly by the toilet as you are now living there since they wouldn't help clear things up!
