Re: Bday Party in Texas Infects 18 people w. Covid

Does anyone know if indoor parties at a catering hall are allowed in NY?

A family member rescheduled a party originally during the shutdown to August. I don’t want to go because it’s inside. I feel slight pressure to attend and it’s stressing me out. I kinda feel like this is a little reckless. I’m not against gatherings I just think it’s too soon for a catering hall. This story is making my decision harder now. Ugh

Don’t you have a new baby at home?? There is no way I’d attend a party right now and then go home to an infant.

I would just say that your pediatrician strongly advised against it for the health of your child. If people are offended, too bad.

It will depend on the phase we are in at that time and how many people are allowed to gather in that phase.
I assume we will be in 4 by August but not sure the rules for gatherings in that phase. I know Cuomo also slowed some of what can open in phase 4 so not sure where that leaves indoor gatherings. I think right now it's probably still up in the air but if the venue is allowing parties to rebook they must be going by a current rule.
Can that change between now and August? Sure, but they are probably planning based on something from the state as of now

Don't let anyone pressure you - you have to do what is right for you.
I personally would not go to a catering hall, I am sure others on here would - its a personal decision.

My cousin was supposed to get married upstate on 8/1 and her wedding was canceled by the catering hall. They had invited 200 people. They are going to get married but have the big celebration next year now...

Yes I do. That’s a good idea about using the pediatrician!

I don't think indoor parties at catering halls are allowed yet but may be in Phase 4 (I know our town has a couple of make-up proms scheduled).
