Similar boat and have been having trouble deciding which way to go.

We have had our nanny for 7 years as well. In March we told her to stay home, though we insisted on paying her - we couldn't replace her (like family now), and she couldn't be without work.

She started back on July 1. The kids were dying to see her, she was super bored. She had been taking public transit to us but she got a car which was the tipping point to all of us feeling comfortable.

I think in your case the issue is, she isn't comfortable coming back yet.
Will she be in September?
You may have to have a conversation with her to find out.
While it's totally her prerogative to not feel safe enough to come back to sitting for you, you also need to know early enough to make other arrangements if need be.

My brother and SIL were in an apartment and paid their nanny from March to now even though she was not at their home. They just purchased a house and the nanny will now live in Monday to Friday.
