After school programs?
Is anyone’s district offering their usual after school program this year? If not and you normally utilized it, what are you doing? Are you just getting a sitter?
I’m told my district historically had a 3rd party program run out of the schools. It was briefly mentioned during their dumpster fire of a zoom presentation last week, and by mentioned I mean they had it on the same slide as eligibility for free lunch and district provided chrome books for “children without means” (I requested one) and the only info they had was that they had nothing to do with it and “it’s your responsibility as a parent to make arrangements for your child.” FYI, this was not an income based program, nor was it free so I don’t know wtf they were trying to get at.

Re: After school programs?
Our district offers before and after care through SCOPE and I believe it will still be available this year. (you do pay for it) It was available during the shut down for children of essential workers as well

Re: After school programs?
Our district ran it through a lottery as they could only accommodate a certain amount of students.
I feel terrible for people trying to scramble to find care for their kids so they can work.

After school programs?
Our district isn't running one this year but they bus to local daycares with before/after and full day programs (since most kids are only going to school 2x a week...)

After school programs?
My district usually has before and after care through the JCC. They haven’t said yes or no yet. They said they want to see how the first few weeks of school go to evaluate the feasibility of the JCC program. I usually get a sitter for the morning and use after care. All the students will be getting chrome books this year. The kids will bring them to and from school each day so that they can learn how to use them in case of full time remote learning again.

Re: After school programs?
Our district uses SCOPE and it’s still running.
You have to pay for it of course. I just switch to pick your day since kids are not going back to full time. Even though I am working from home thru are still going. I don’t want to hav to worry about picking them up and getting homework done on days I don’t have too.
They are even offering daycare for days off. I have not signed them up yet. My DH wants to see if the can handle remote before I sign them up for it because it’s not exactly cheap. I think my DD will be fine but not my DS

After school programs?
Thanks guys. It never occurred to me that I wouldn’t pay for after care. I see after care as something utilized and paid for by working parents.
My district presented after care as something negative and therefore easily done away with. As if it were a favor, I guess. I’m fuming at their dismissive attitude toward working parents, so my post became just as much a vent as it is a question, I suppose.
It sounds like some sort of program is available in most areas and options other than a babysitter exist.
