Just a question for Republicans...especially if you're knowledgeable...but, knowing what the Repubs have done to our country in terms of selling us out to the highest bidder (Koch Brothers, Monsanto, stripping SS, politician abuse against women's rights, etc) how can you still support them? I know there are people who go the other way simply because they lack the knowledge or just have a hatred for Democrats, but what gives? I'm not being snarky but I just don't know how to understand. Our country needs to work together, not just the rich getting richer and screw the middle and lower classes.
you talk about Monsanto...Clinton is supported them. I am a registered Democrat.

One of the biggest problems in national government in the last few decades is that the two primary parties have both gone extremist. The vast majority of the population is centrist, with leanings towards one side or another. Since we have to label ourselves Red or Blue, it makes each individual appear extremist, since that's what each party currently represents. Most of the good presidents were centrists, and would never get elected today.

Those are good points - I myself am independent but I'm truly boggled how people buy into the Repubs...like how can we even entertain ANOTHER BUSH in the White House? Is it just that people hate Obama so much they'd rather go back to the Bushs?

At this point why not? While I know he will never win how much worse of a position could he put us in? We need all the help we can get and obviously these typical politicians don't know what they're doing. And since he's got a crap load of money so he must be doing something right. Obama has turned our country into a joke so why the hell not.
Respectfully, Trump has also declared bankruptcy about 6 times.
Our country was a joke the minute we elected GWB.
I never said he was an instant millionaire. Everyone has to learn somehow. And honestly, things might not have been great with GWB but the whole police killings/disrespect and racism issue is a huge reflection of Obama and his lack of "support".
So that's why our country is a joke? Because Obama is not feeding into white privelige?
No he should be equal all around. He showed plenty of support when Treyvon MArtin was killed but yet was noticeably quieter when it came to all of our officers that were killed. It should be all or nothing, not speaking up only when it's your race involved.
And this is just one of the many reasons our country has become a joke. Not even going to start on Obamacare or any of the other reasons. Getting back to the original subject, if a politician (whether its Obama or GWB) can have such a negative impact on our country why not have someone else take a shot at it?
AGREED!!!

That's exactly what I think it is.
I think people forget or don't realize or don't care that unemployment has significantly decreased or the deficit has also significantly decreased over the past 6 years. Two things, as an example, that were a result of Bush's shit show in office.

DING DING DING DING DING. Say what you want about Obamacare, but it has provided health insurance for record numbers. Is it flawed? absolutely. But I'm someone who believes that there should be "socialist" healthcoverage, in that provide medicare for everyone, and let the fatcat insurance companies go to hell. They are only out for profit, to fatten their wallets. Reimbursements suck, premiums suck, they deny everything, it's insane.

It's hard to answer this, because you think the only reason people are republicans are because we lack knowledge or hate democrats? I could say democrats only care about social issues and not about the financial weight of the economy on this generation as well as future generations, but that would most likely be wrong because it's too big of a generalization, so I don't like to be generalized either.
I think people have priorities and need to decide which issues are most important to them and that is how they find if they are repubs or democrats. For me, I'm in the center if you look at both social and economic issues, but my priorities remain high for our fiscal responsibilities and that is why ultimately I usually vote republican. While I do believe gay marriage and women's rights are important issues and I'd love to see great things for both, it may be selfish of me, but it's not my biggest worry. I feel that the deficit and spending is a huge problem that can ultimately bankrupt the U.S. And can ruin the future for my kids. So I'd love a republican who is fiscally conservative and socially liberal but I haven't seen one yet in my years of voting, so until that happens, I need to vote based on higher priority, for myself.

What I don't understand about this is how can you say Republicans are more fiscally responsible when the last time we had a Republican president, our surplus turned into a massive deficit and since we've had Democrat president, the deficit has significantly decreased.

But that's proven untrue...the Republicans have practically bankrupted us and sold us out to the highest bidder...I don't call that fiscally responsible...unless you're encouraged to let them line their own pockets. I don't believe that the Republican party holds the best interests of our country at heart - all they care about at the end of the day is money.

I don't consider myself a Democrat or a Republican. Many of my views are on the more liberal side, but not all of them.
However, the answer is simply that people have different perspectives, and they view situations from different angles. People also know different parts of the puzzle. No one person knows every single little details of every single political issue out there.
Personally, I feel that intense dichotomy between Democrats and Republicans, and a refusal to understand how people could hold different opinions from both sides, is a major issue.

But I AM trying to understand. If someone had a really good explanation I'm all ears...but I just don't see anything positive about the Republican party.
I wasn't referring to you; I was just making a statement.
I mean, let's just take a hypothetical situation. And I truly mean this situation hypothetically; I don't know what your views are on this specific issue.
I could say to you that I am pro-life because I do not believe in taking another life. I could say I do not support the death penalty either.
If you are pro-choice, you could tell me that a fetus isn't life. You could tell me that my perception is based on religion even if I say it isn't.
You aren't going to see something positive because you view the situation from a different angle. If there is an objective answer to the abortion question, neither of us can know it. If there isn't an objective answer, then neither of us is incorrect; we have varying opinions.
Republicans aren't intrinsically wrong; Democrats aren't intrinsically right. The opposite isn't true either. That's especially true because the definitions of both terms are somewhat fluid. If I listed all of my beliefs, I think many would define me as a Democrat; however, I do not define myself in that way.
Basically, I think what you are asking for is, to some degree, impossible. If, for example, you have already decided that the burden of proof lies on the Republicans and that Democrats are guiltless, then how could someone change your opinion?

You need to look at the bigger picture, every single person who says this looks at 2009, instead of the entire time he was in office. In 2009 the deficit soared, but the rest of the time he was in office the deficit was a lot lower than it is currently. If we kept bush's economics in play for 10 plus years following, it is stated that it would be 11.7 trillion by 2019, however under obamas plan it will be 14.3. But I'm sure most people don't even understand why the deficit soared in 2009.
So while I do understand other people not agreeing with me, I won't be changing my mind any time soon about the state of our country and who I plan to vote for in the next election. And no it's not trump hahah.
Edited: sorry had to take out personal things, since I don't want it getting back to anybody..

No thread on Trump running for office??
All politicians are a bunch of clowns. They're all in it for themselves. Middle class is screwed on either side, especially in a high income state. The goal of both parties is to keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor and let most of the financial burdens fall on the middle class.
On the bright side, if he gets the nomination, at least Trump's antics will provide some entertainment...
Also, regarding decrease in deficit.... I anyways find this funny because we owe trillions. Paying back a billions or even one trillion is like pennies on a dollar. This isn't an area we should commend our government on. We are no where near being debt free, don't let them fool you.

Re: No thread on Trump running for office??
The frustrating this is that the economy has statistically done better under Democrats and Republicans. So saying you are a Repub because of the economy is untrue.
I just can’t stand the racism and complete disregard for the earth. I also can’t stand fake religious beliefs that are so contradictory to any major religions teachings it’s an unfunny joke (treatment at the border, denial of medical care, racism, police brutality, treatment of women and LGBTQ+).
What would Jesus do? He was a brown man beaten and hung from a cross by the government. He cured the sick and took care of the children.
This party is run by exploiters who make extreme laws to protect their wealth for generations to come while taking advantage of the brainwashed and The stupid who continue to act against their own self interest but are unwilling to see that.
There’s a reason Repubs don’t want to support education, deny science, deny livable wages, and healthcare. It might actually give them less people to exploit.
There’s dirty political stuff on both sides which is a distraction.
Source for my claims about economy - our own senate. Or is that fake news too?

The frustrating this is that the economy has statistically done better under Democrats and Republicans. So saying you are a Repub because of the economy is untrue.
I just can’t stand the racism and complete disregard for the earth. I also can’t stand fake religious beliefs that are so contradictory to any major religions teachings it’s an unfunny joke (treatment at the border, denial of medical care, racism, police brutality, treatment of women and LGBTQ+).
