I don't see the big deal. Aren't we sanitizing our hands anyway? So take the pic then use some hand sanitizer. This whole thing is making us socially awkward.

Exactly. Regarding every human like they are harboring Ebola.

You are right actually.

I read something the other day, forgot where, and someone said, as far as plagues that have made the rounds of this earth since the beginning of time, this is a pretty mild one.

And yet....

Re: Is it weird that I found this weird?

when I went to the sun flower fields in July, I took my dad for a day out east. I asked a mother with a stroller and 2 other kids if she felt comfortable taking our picture. I had a mask on. I tried taking selfies of us it wasnt working. The only way was to ask. She said yes, no problem and asked if I would take of her and kids, I did.

I had no issues doing so. She passed hand sanitizer to me. In fact my phone was causing problems for her. Mine had a horrible glare due to the shatter proof top. One reason I had issues

She tired with my phone then offered to use her phone and texted the pics to me. SO NICE of her

I don't think its weird he asked more so he was not wearing a mask in and walking out of the restaurant. I many of what we do is habit.

TBH I wouldn't think anything of it, but everybody is different, and more so with this situation. I don't go outside too much, only foray DS's baseball games. Last Sunday we were social distancing with another parents but I had a picture to show to them so I handed them my phone and got it back and didn't think too much of it. It is a good reminder for the future, though.

Re: Is it weird that I found this weird?

I have been asked to take pics and I’ve taken pics of people if they asked me. I’ve also offered to take pics of people. It’s weird and I can see in this covid pandemic you should think twice about it. Me personally I feel like if I sanitize my hands after I should be fine. I do not think covid is transmitted from surfaces.

I think it depends on what you feel comfortable with.

Wait. In the middle of a national pandemic, as many schools in NY are shutting down again and the CDC is saying that the virus is airborne and that the 6 feet thing needs to be revisited....

a stranger WITHOUT a mask came up to you in public close enough to hand you something and tried to hand you something?

It's beyond weird. It is downright aggressive.

Maybe if he were wearing a mask and asked you from far away, I'd feel differently.

You handled it very well.

I totally agree. It is aggressive to approach someone without a mask and attempt to hand them something in the middle of an airborne pandemic. Then give rude looks as the OP said. Absolutely.

And yet... the same old people making the same old deriding comments at every chance. Never ceases.

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't find it weird. During this pandemic, I find it weird. I would've done exactly the same thing you did.

Using the word aggressive for a seemingly innocent request is the most bizarre and ridiculous thing ever. Especially, in this climate, where there is so much racial tension, division and turmoil going on in this country. There is so much more happening in this world that is actually aggressive and deserves the term.

Being black and wearing a hoodie was deemed aggressive by someone and look how well that turned out for Treyvon Martin. I think a lot of the same posters need to wake up and be careful of the labels and words they use.

Other dangers exists that you should be looking out for, not just Covid. Should the guy have been wearing a mask, absolutely. But to call him aggressive for not wearing one and asking CALMLY to take a picture is utter bullsh!t.

And I am talking about the word AGGRESSIVE being used not thinking the situation is WIERD.

I wouldn't ask a stranger to touch my phone during this time. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask if they wanted the picture that badly, but I think they definitely should have been prepared to be respectful of someone declining to touch their phone or go near them, especially if the guy wasn't wearing a mask.

I agree. Asking someone to take a picture, fine, but, in the same respect the person asking shouldn't be upset or surprised if someone says no. It's a two way street and respecting other people's comfort level should 1000% go both ways.

This wouldn't be an issue for me because I never ask anyone to take pics. I'm the one taking them or the selfie queen, since my DH hates to take pics or be in them. So my mind is preconditioned to think of it as bothering someone.

However, if someone is wearing a mask, outside and keeping to themselves. You can almost bet they are being very cautious and protecting themselves or maybe even a family member. It doesn't matter what the reason is. I do think the guy probably should have "Read his audience" and realize at the very least put his mask on to speak to the OP or probably approach someone else.

You are really drawing a false equivalency here. Because I think this is a form of aggression does NOT mean that I dismiss or think it is equivalent to systematic racism and the murdering of black and brown people by the police or anyone. Where did I ever say that? You want to talk about ridiculous. Give me a break.

I did not say what I would do if someone invaded my socially distance space maskless and attempted to hand me something. I would say NO and walk away. I wouldn't yell, shoot them, or call the cops. I do regard this as weird and highly insensitive at the very least, and aggressive in that action could cause *potential* harm to others.

I have lost a family member because of Covid, so don't tell me how to feel about it.

I agree the word aggressive is inappropriate. To me that word means, to get in ones face, not backing down when told no, tailgating when driving.

Asking for a picture then giving a look IMO is none of those

Ok.

I would perceive it as potentially threatening to my health so I feel it is hostile/aggressive.

Obviously, different people perceive things in different ways. You are entitled to your opinion and so am I.

I agree as well. The word aggressive was misused in this thread.

I don’t think someone asking to take a pic is weird since I don’t think many people believe in risks behind it. That said, I have declined requests to take pics of others and vice versa during the pandemic. If others knew where my phone has been the last 6 months, they would never hold it.

That’s just it. If you’re uncomfortable, you just say no. You don’t owe a stranger anything.
