Pumpkin Picking LI?
I'm planning to take my kids (4.5 and 1.5) pumpkin picking this Thursday- late morning/early afternoon. We usually go to F&W Schmitt Farm in Melville, but I was looking at Brightwaters Farm in Bayshore, too. We don't need a lot of frills- I'm covid conscious which is why I'm choosing to go on a weekday when it's presumably less crowded. Should we just stick with Schmitt farms? Or any other suggestions? We're in Lynbrook, so willing to drive but don't really want to go allllllll the way out East, ya know? TIA!

Re: Pumpkin Picking LI?
I went to schmitt's yesterday morning at opening. It started to get more crowded when we were leaving, but we really had no problem distancing while we were there. I assume on a weekday morning the crowds will be even lighter & it should be easy to follow Covid guidelines.
I will say the playground looked packed as we were leaving but we didn't go in because my kids (15, 11 & 7 weeks) aren't the right ages so I can't say for sure. Probably wouldn't be so bad on a weekday though.

I like Brightwaters a lot better than Schmitts. There's more to do and a lot less crowded (I think anyway). I also really like Borella's in St. James. It's like $10 pp and includes the hay ride, the bouncy, corn maze, etc and you can pick the pumpkin from the patch rather than pick out a pre-picked pumpkin.

We went to Schmitt's on Monday, they are only open 12:00-4:30 on weekdays and had no food for sale. However it was great to go when it is not crowded at all and was a nice relaxing day. The $10 entrance fee is ridiculous, but the included playground, hayrides and mini golf would be fun for your kids.

Ah I didn't realize it didn't open til 12. That still works for me, good to hear it wasn't crowded!

Hmm I like the idea of the corn maze! Schmitt's is $10 entrance fee, too, so I don't mind paying. I'll check it out. Thanks!
ETA: Is it hard to pick it from the vine? It's only going to be me and the kids- and the 1.5 y/o is a runner.

No, not at all. I think they are pre cut. You just get to pick them out of the patch. They have a winery there too in case you need a glass after chasing your kid through the patch. Oh and Brightwaters has a Great South Brewing standing there too if beer is more your jam.
