EZPass Violations
Apparently our EZ-Pass was not set up for auto renewal and our car was being charged tolls by mail. My DH (I assure you the D does not stand for "Dear" in this instance ) just assumed the bills coming in the mail were receipts of payment, not actual bills. And he never paid. I went to look at our account and We owe like $1500 in tolls... tolls that were originally $4.00 and now are $54 or $109. Has anyone had success in talking them down? I want to pay them all off at once and if I have to I'll chalk it up to a valuable lesson and never let DH live it down, but I really would hate to pay this much on tolls that probably add up to a quarter of that.

While this did not happen to me, it did happen to our nephew. Believe me, those toll charges add up VERY quickly and the fees are just ridiculous. But to answer your question, yes, you can talk them down on the fees. Whenever you call, be prepared to pay off the settlement amount immediately

Oh that's so good to hear. Yeah, I definitely don't mind paying the tolls in full, just the fees are insane! Thank you!

My coworker just went through this. She wasn't able to talk them down all the way but they did waive some of the fees. Make sure you call them asap.

Re: EZPass Violations
EZpass can be very sneaky in this regard; while i didn't have this experience, people in my town had something nasty happen, as did we.
I live in Rockaway Beach Queens. We have a intra borough toll that residents are not supposed to be charged for.
If you don't pay attention, and renew this rebate when it's due (and no, they DON'T notify you), you start racking up the tolls that we are not responsible for!
All of a sudden on your next bill its through the roof.
Then you have to go through all the bureaucratic bs sending them paperwork to prove your residency, etc and eventually they remove the charges. But what a damn headache. Some people have to ask the Assemblywoman for help with this crap!
So I feel your pain. I hope you can talk them way down

I was able to dispute many charges DH had in a similar situation- it was very frustrating and time intensive.

I hate EZ pass. I preloaded money on mine and then I found out they were taking out all these "statement fees" and then automatically charging my credit card again to replenish it. We went nowhere and were out 75 bucks
