I moved from Long Island to Staten Island. I would like to start looking at houses in Jersey in the next couple of years. Looking for a larger house, decent size property good schools and not too far from NY. Do you have any recommendations of areas?

I have family in Summit. It's a nice town cute town. The train is about 30 min to Manhattan. The homes are very nice and have good size properties.

Re: Jersey

It will depend upon your budget. Can you share a range? Are you more liberal or conservative? How far of a commute? Religion? Are you showy or a saver? Are you a keeping up with the Joneses or down to earth?Different towns have different reputations.

For a thirty minute commute I hope you have a budget of over a million dollars. For a larger home with property and a thirty minute commute you are looking at properties at $1.5 million and up. If you are okay with a slightly longer commute, you can get those things but you are realistically looking at an hour commute and $650k to $900k. Remember NJ taxes are more than Long Island, but NJ schools are ranked number two nationally, whereas NY is ranked much lower (sorry).

Summit is a great town. You would need a $1m minimum budget for a home there.

Def not. My family did NOT spend that much. Probably closer to 700-800K. There are some smaller homes. Not all million dollar ones in that town.

op asked for a larger homes Yes, you can get a really small home in Summit for 800k, but not one of the larger homes with land.

We live in the area and love it. A lot of transplants from Staten Island. A lot commute by bus to NYC but closer to an hour or more.

I think a few others live in the area too.

Me!! I'm a Marlboro girl and we LOVE it here. You can get a nice house anywhere from about 5K (that will probably need some updating since most are from the 70's and the people leaving are moving to the 55 plus) up to 9K. Depends on where. I have a a bit over a half acre and we love it. Great schools and neighbors. Most are moving here from Staten Island. We are about an hour commute to the city and about 15-20 mins to the shore.

Not bad at all. Most of my neighbors are from Staten Island Chat Icon
They commute to see their family.
Obviously depends on where but could be anywhere from25-45 mins. Take 9 to the GSP to the SI exit

Re: Jersey

Red Bank, Spring Lake or Cranberry. But you have to be really mindful of flooding and flood plane maps. I think Erica lives closer to those areas. I am sending you a FM.
