nye and nyd food
shoot me some ideas (and links) to food for this weekend, please.
might order out for nye, but was thinking of another casserole-type breakfast for friday.

DH is planning to make prime rib and grilled shrimp for the two of us on New Year's Day. He has never made prime rib before, so I am excited and curious to see what he comes up with lol
We are going out with my dad and his girlfriend for dinner on New Year's Eve.

Will you be up early from NYE to have breakfast? 
NYE, going to friends for a small party and they are having Italian catered. Probably some apps too.
When we have stayed home in the past when the kids were young we would do all type of apps if you are looking to do that.
Breakfast, maybe one of those casseroles that people made for Christmas morning. Is it just for yourself? Maybe something smaller?

I hope not to be too hungover but I will be having different drinks than I normally have at home (which I know my limit since I make them) and jello shots, and probably regular shots lol...soooooooooooo

NYE we love apps. Finger foods goes best with cocktails.
Although this year is different and depending on the weather we may set up a fire and table with finger foods, a bar, etc.
I have been craving a good cosmo so already picked up limes and cran juice. We have the other alcohol already.

moz sticks
cheese and crackers
hummus and chips
popcorn chicken bites
and a bunch of other stuff along with cookies and other desserts.
Nothing for NYD. Maybe pickup fresh bagels and get spreads.

NYE: appetizer party
baked brie with fig jam ( home assemble- store bought pastry dough)
cheeseboard: 2 cheeses, 2 meats (prosciutto & salami), cornichons, grapes, dates, nuts
pigs n blankets (from a box)
shrimp cocktail ( home made)
mini quiches ( from a box)
dessert: ice cream & cookies
(yes, there are only 2 of us & this is too much food)
NYD: We don't really eat breakfast. Lunch will probably be leftovers from NYE
Dinner: Roast duck legs. Mostly because we had them in the freezer, it takes a while & we will be home to spend the time on it.

It's just us and the kids. We are ordering in from a local Mexican restaurant. Friday we are taking down all of our Christmas decorations, so nothing special. Probably do take out again that night (maybe pizza).

I wasn't going to do apps bc we did that on Christmas but now I'm leaning that way again. So far I have crab cakes, shrimp cocktail, buffalo chicken dip, crispy artichokes with horseradish dip, pretzel bites with cinnamon dip. I think a small cheesecake for dessert.

I always have a NYE bash so I'm kind of being a Debbie Downer about it this year. Whomp whomp. I have a zoom party set up with a DJ but, honestly, its not cutting it. Like when diet, excuse me, "lifestyle" gurus try to convince you spaghetti squash is perfect substitute for real pasta.
Anyway, my normal list is:
baked clams
bacon wrapped scallops
hot cheese dip in a bread bowl
charcuterie board
pigs in a blanket
baked potato bites
baked brie
shrimp cocktail
Sushi boat
filet mignon with carmelized onion sliders
last year someone brought a Philly pretzel platter and that was pretty awesome. I think it came with little philly cheese steaks and they were so good.
NYD is always at my grandmother's. She makes a fresh ham. It's supposed to bring prosperity and health...according to her. LOL She usually does that with scalloped potatoes and a veggie.

Brussels sprout soup with bacon and then either Swedish meatballs or Greek Bifteki with a salad and potatoes. Toasted in with water and tea at NYE (I overdid it over Xmas).
Breakfast, hmm not sure. I just learned about froached eggs, so that or scrambled with bacon.
Dinner is leftovers or the other meatball dish I didn’t make.

This was us. I did homemade pizza, Swedish turkey meatballs and veggies with dip so I could feel somewhat healthy lol.
We normally have a few people over and I do more apps.
NYD is never anything special. I really just want to eat leftovers and be left alone while I take down the decorations.

Even for NYE “dinner” at 7 we did all apps so the kids could enjoy. once they go to bed, DH and I just watch TV and toast with champagne at midnight. We don’t really eat after dinner. when I had guests in the past it was a big deal with tons of apps all night,and once I cooked breakfast at 4AM  young and stupid, before kids
