Covid quarantine/testing - can someone help

Try finding this information on the NYS website regarding testing and quarantinng and I can’t find what I need and I am frustrated! My DH got tested for covid waiting on results he thinks he has it (no fever but had a headache and now can’t smell or taste)

DD in the middle of the night woke up with 102.7 fever gave her Motrin and now is Motrin free and fever free.

If he comes up positive I was told there is no point of us getting test we are automatically consider positive and need to quarantine.

If that’s true we quarantine for 10 days and then that’s it if we are symptom free that’s it?

What about my DD class would they have to quarantine without a test? I don’t know why they are saying to no bother getting tested.

DD does not want to get tested she had to do it once cause she complained about her throat and it was negative but she is terrified getting it done again and o can’t get a rapid for her!

I would just say I will ask the state/health department but I have been hearing they haven’t even been calling or it’s been days later. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would call the school. I think she will need a negative to go back and I think that you may want to get results from a PCR so the DOH can determine if anyone in her class needs to quarantine. I am sure the school has dealt with this before though. They should know what to do.

To return to school, she will need a PCR test.

The results will determine what the DOH tells the school to do. In some cases, they quarantine the entire class and in other cases, they quarantine only those close to the student. They base their recommendations on things like were the windows and doors opened? How long they were near each other, etc.

If she tests positive, I recommend that you tell the school as contact tracing is very overwhelmed and they might not get the message for a period of time.

The new rule is this:

Consistent with recent CDC guidance, quarantine for individuals exposed to COVID-19 can end after ten days without a testing requirement if no symptoms have been reported during the quarantine period

Which leads me to believe that if there are symptoms, testing needs to be done.

I will add that the quarantine for 10 days is after LAST exposure. So you would need to isolate your daughter and have no contact with her for your quarantine to begin. If you have contact with her and she is within 10 days of symptoms appearing, your quarantine period restarts.

My friend's two young children could not isolate so her quarantine did not begin until 10 days AFTER they showed symptoms. She had to quarantine for 24 days. In the end, she got sick during her 14 day quarantine.

Re: Covid quarantine/testing - can someone help

Going through this right now.

Quarantine for everyone living in the household is 10 days. No need to test because unless you test up to 10-14 days after first symptoms in the house, there is no way if you have it or not.

If your husbands test comes back positive, you are all considered positive for at least 10 days. You can go and test every couple of days if you want, but unless you are an essential employee, you should be home in quarantine.

My SIL had to pull her kids out of school due to my positive test because I saw them on Sunday.

Husband is positive.

Getting my DD tested found a place that does rapid. Her cheer team is requesting it but not the school!

We will all just quarantine for 10 days!

Of course I didn’t go food shopping so now I have to figure that out!

I did stop and shop curbside this morning and just told them to NOT put the groceries in the trunk. To leave the cart and walk away because I was sick. They were very appreciative of me being honest with them. It was very easy.

I realized after the fact I forgot Gatorade, so we doordashed from cvs and got Gatorade, some snacks and a backup thermometer. Had it in 20 minutes. They dropped it on steps and left.

If you quarantine for the mandatory 14 days I do not believe anyone can require a test, as long as you are symptom free. And since your DD had a direct exposure from your DH, she has to quarantine anyway for the full period. The DOH is not going to let her go back to cheer or anywhere else within the 14 days even with a negative test.

It's down to 10 days now. They just continue to monitor for days 11-14 - we do home screening but the district will screen the kids who did a 10 day quarantine at school as well.

So excited - we are due back Monday for the first time since 11/24. I anticipate us going M-T and then back into quarantine.

Re: Covid quarantine/testing - can someone help

I would definitely call the school. We are currently quarantining now since DH was directly exposed to COVID. He's going for a test on Saturday but so far so good Chat Icon. I alerted DDs teachers today since we found out last night about his exposure and they spoke to the school nurse and said that as long as DD is symptom free she can come back to school on Monday.

That’s odd they wouldn’t test you, but there’s a chance you won’t show a positive for a few more days. And since I assume you will be exposed to your kids daily - your quarantine is longer than 10 days. I believe it’s 10 days after their symptoms go away.

ETA - so basically, if you don’t test positive, your family will be out of quarantine before you will.

I’m going to get tested tomorrow or Saturday!

My son tested positive and he is showing no symptoms right now!

ETA: they said they wouldn’t test me because they only have pediatric doctors but yet they test up to 26 years old I didn’t realize a 26-year-old is a child but hey!!!

I would guess that's for insurance purposes. They probably can not bill the insurance of anyone over 26 because they are pediatricians.

That makes sense then. Good luck - hoping for a speedy recovery for your family.
