Kitchen island ideas
So we are looking to redo our kitchen. DH is a contractor so sees a lot of what he likes and doesn’t like. We want to open the wall between kitchen and dining room to make it one large kitchen with a large island. We don’t agree on some appliances. I want a drawer microwave in the island and a second oven in the island We have a double wall oven now and I love having 2. Thoughts on that or do you like the microwave in a island?

Re: Kitchen island ideas
Where would the microwave go otherwise?
I have it over the stove and I would love it in the island so DS could help himself lol. He can't reach it where it is.

I'm not a fan of it in the island if you can avoid it because I don't like having to bend over to use it. I like having it in the wall. We have a an stove with oven and then an additional wall oven with the microwave on top of it. A lot of my friends who have recently redone their kitchens got a steam oven instead of a microwave? You might want to look into those because they heat things up super fast but more evenly than a microwave? People seem to love them.

I like my microwave in the island. If you do a drawer version, it won’t be as much bending. I have a regular counter micro in a shelf built into my island. I specifically asked for that because I don’t want to be spending $$$$ money if it goes and having to get the same size, etc custom to the cabinet. So I have to bend. But for the amount of time I use it on a daily basis, it’s not bad.
I love the idea of making the area one big kitchen with a big island. A neighbor did that and it is amazing!

Thanks! I have a feeling I'll get mixed reviews on the microwave in the island. Glad to hear some like it.

Kitchen island ideas
Not me, but my mom redid her kitchen last year and she has the microwave in the island. She really likes it there and doesn't mind bending down. I mean you are just heating things quickly in there. I love the way it looks, neat and out of the way. My kitchen is not large enough for an island, but if it was it would be something I would do.

We have a hinge down microwave in our island and it’s a pain in the ass. I’d much prefer the drawer. As for sink, appliances etc in the island I prefer not. I use my whole island to serve food and everyone gathers around it while we entertain. I’d hate to lose space by a sink or stove. We have a range and then a double oven in the wall/ pantry bank of cabinets.
