how long do your running shoes last?

i've recently started jogging. i bought a pair of Brooks running shoes in December, use them heavily daily and I see the start of a rip in the front where the fabric is.

I've had this issue with cheap sneakers too from just daily wear and tear.

Just wondering, for those who jog/run and get heavy use out of your sneakers, how long do they last before you have to buy another pair? tia

I would contact Brooks. That’s unacceptable.

I gave up on Nike because quality has gotten very poor. I now like Adidas and I’d say 4-5 months.

Re: how long do your running shoes last?

500 miles is standard for walking, 400 for running. So if you run 3 miles a day, every day then I could see them developing holes.

interesting, never knew any of this so thank you!!

i don't run daily, and I use the sneakers for daily regular use. I don't track my steps/miles so that makes it hard to determine exact usage but I did a quick calculation based on my route (again not a daily run/walk) and came up with about 6 miles. So that comes to about 540 miles in 3 months.

I went on the Brooks website and you can submit a request for replacement BUT their life expectancy (guess I could have looked at that before posting here but i got good feedback so thank you) is 300-500 miles or 3-6 months.

So i'm probably shit out of luck.
Would you still go ahead with the request?

I have a few pair of running shoes, and alternate them. My Brooks I only use for running.

I would especially if you didn’t run daily.

I just don’t think sneakers should fall apart easily, and Brooks are $$. It can’t hurt to try.

.

I wouldn’t. My running shoes last 3 months tops and I only run in them.

I would not. I do understand they are expensive. In order to get more life out of your shoes you either need to rotate them or just use them to run.

Sorry but I have to disagree with most. Yes running shoes have a “lifespan” and I do replace mine regularly, but they have never started to fall apart. And certainly not after only ~540 miles. That’s unacceptable and I probably would reach out to Brooks. At the very least they should offer you a discount on your next pair.

I get Asics and I usually get a new pair every 8 or 9 months. And I run a lot although in the winter it is mostly on a treadmill. I did run one pair down to where they had a hole in the bottom without even realizing it though. I guess maybe I should replace them more often! LOL

Re: how long do your running shoes last?

I have gotten different brands although I'm partial to NB. Nike doesn't fit me right. They usually last about a year but I switch running with biking and probably wear them longer than I should anyway.

Running and walking are very different movements on your foot and how it strikes.

How much are you jogging? I’m not trying to judge but if you are doing a mile or two here or there it probably doesn’t matter. If you are running consistently and 10-20-30-50 miles a week, it’s a different situation.

The longer you run, your body and feet respond. Your feet swell and your form gets sloppier over longer distances so the integrity of the shoe becomes more important. Natural wear reduces the support in the shoe which might be fine for shorter walking distances but can cause injuries for longer distances/exertion.

General rule like everyone says is 500 miles. I would buy street shoes or sneakers for errands and use running shoes for running.

Also, feet swell after longer exercise periods. Always half size up for running shoes. I’m 8.5 regular and a 9 for running. This could explain additional wear if you bought your normal size.

Hope this helps

I love using them for daily use, they are so comfortable! I run for about a mile, the rest of the workout is fast paced walking as a warm up/cool down. I just recently started running (or is it jogging) and I just plain run out of gas after that mile.

I did buy regular size, so maybe that's why the tear.

thanks for the info

i'm still undecided on pursuing with Brooks. I think I may, just to see what they say.

You should really go to a running store like Runner's Edge to get properly fitted for a running sneaker. The way your foot strikes and how you walk all make a difference. Brooks may not be the best pair for your foot even though they might feel good. I can only wear New Balance. Everything else hurts my feet. Running sneakers should last around 400 miles.

My brother gets holes in his running sneakers on the top because he must pick his toe up while running. Over time that creates a hole in the fabric.

And you should use them ONLY for running. Get a second pair for everyday use. I have 3 pairs of sneakers: running, zumba and every day wear.
