finally got a vaccine appt - update: reaction
holy cow did that take forever!
let the countdown begin to family functions without masks and limited guests!!
UPDATE:
i was a little afraid of the reaction i might have.
happy to say that the reaction(s) i had were VERY minor.
* sore arm that evening and into the next morning. by lunch time the next day it was getting noticeably better and all gone by bedtime.
* i felt a LITTLE light headed about 30 minutes afterwards, but it lasted all of 3-5 minutes.
nothing else.
LSP2005, thanks for the heads up. i made sure i was well hydrated. i did take a tylenol pm before bed, just in case.
looking forward to my second dose!!

Drink water and Gatorade. Keep your arm limp. Use the arm you do not sleep on. No pregaming with medicine. If you end up needing something, make sure it is 12 hours after your shot. Ideally, power through because this is your immune response. You want it to have the full effect. If you do need something use Tylenol.

If you’re on LI, There are 3 more state sites opening up tomorrow. You can go on starting at 8am to get appts
When I was looking for others, if you keep clicking eventually you get appts within the same week or 2. It’s very weird how it throws a March 18 appt at you one seconds and a may 18 the next.

Supposedly may 1 all adults should be able to get it.
The roll out in NY is super slow. It’s frustrating when they are coming up with things vaccinated people can do but unvaccinated people cannot when a huge percentage of NYers can’t even get the damn thing.
NJ lowered their eligibility to include overweight people (not just obese) Along with smoking and other everyday illnesses. And you can go anywhere including pharmacies. But NY is a real shit show as per usual.

Do you know if postal workers are included yet?
These are the new groups. I’m not sure if postal workers are considered government employees but I would think they are considered public employees
- Public-facing government and public employees
- Not-for-profit workers who provide public-facing services to New Yorkers in need
- Essential in-person public-facing building service workers (does not include workers at construction sites)

Also, the population of Connecticut is 3.7 million, NYS is 19 million. You can’t compare the two.

Cuomo said all adults would be eligible by May 1st in NY - I think that's what the reference was.
To another poster's point - yes the roll out is slow but, until the last week or two it's been so difficult to get an appointment for those eligible - it makes sense they aren't increasing the eligiblity list faster.
I noticed this past week that appointments took longer to fill up than in the past so it is going better.

I know, but you would think a larger state would have a better system. It is just frustrating to see our neighbor states be more organized.
I know Biden just wanted the availability opened up by May 1, but it just seemed to annoy Cuomo when that date was piut out there, I guess because people will be impatient.
It was just the way he said:
"Once you tell people they are eligible, then eligibility suggests, 'Now I should be able to get it,' and we're going to have to dramatically increase our capacity to do that, because we are not at that capacity now,"
that annoyed me, but I guess he is just trying to manage expectations.

It's a vaccine supply issue though. isn't it?
The actual vaccination sites are very efficient and well run (speaking from personal experience). The website to schedule is a pain right now, but that is because there are no available appointments because the vaccine supply just isn't there right now. As supply increases, the rate of vaccinations can increase as well.

i believe that websites in all states are a cluster!
once i got passed the "you don't qualify at this moment" block, i was refreshing non-stop and appointments would appear and then disappear immediately because someone else grabbed that one.
it was very frustrating.
if you have the time, remember that there are a lot of FB groups for vaccine hunters. these groups help you find places that might vaccine the general public - with leftover doses at the end of the day (missed/cancelled appointments). i tried it for los angeles, but it was more trouble than i was able to put into it... and then i became eligible.
