husband's pillow smells
my husband sweats a lot i guess and his pillows are nasty. we change the pillow cases often, no help. the actual pillow smells.
I have tried to clean them before in washing machine and I totally ruined them.
He just bought new ones a few months ago and these smell too already.
The 2nd problem (besides sweating so much) is he is very picky with his pillows they have to be super thin so they are hard to find. When i put his old one in the washing machine it fluffed up- and not in a good way - it was lumpy.
I am thinking we need to start over again.. but now by waterproof pillowcases? do they sell them? Any other suggestions? or how to clean the actual pillow with out ruining it?

Re: husband's pillow smells
Time for new pillows...I am a thin pillow person too, I just cut them open and remove most of the filling and sew them back up...yea its a little bit of work but that's the only way I can get a thin pillow.

I would soak them in Febreeze and let them air out outside.

Re: husband's pillow smells
How about trying to put them inside an allergy cover? I dont think the smell would get through to that... My hubby has the same issue... He ruins pillowcases

My DH's pillows have the same problem.
Try soaking the pillows in oxyclean and water. Then after washing, dry pillows with some tennis balls to fluff them so they don't get lump.
And when ready to use again, use a waterproof case, then a regular case on top of that.

All of the above

Re: husband's pillow smells
What kinda of pillows are they? We were previously using latex pillows and they developed a smell from the latex. When I was pregnant and I was super sensitive to that kind of thing, I woke up my DH in a panic because it smelled like cat pee and I thought Penny peed in the bed!!
We narrowed down the problem and have different pillows now .. no issues.

Do this. Don't febreeze them, he'll just be breathing those chemicals in directly. Or start fresh with a new pillow and waterproof case.

For my Dh I think it's more like the oils in his skin/hair. It's not really a sweat smell

ahhh ok I get that. I would suggest a fresh pillowcase, fresh pillow with pillow cover, those r cheap and easy to change rather then constantly buying new pillows :)

Does he shower before bed? If not, maybe that would help.

Re: husband's pillow smells
Iw oudl also start with new pillows, but make sure you have a pillow cover, and then a pillow case, and wash both frequently.

Re: husband's pillow smells
Get pillow covers to go under the pillow case. My mom has a couple, they zip closed. I'm sure you can find them in BBB.
