Do you vote for your school budget and board?
I know this week seems to be the popular week to do so.

Re: Do you vote for your school board?
Definitely! I will never understand the people that b*tch and moan about everything yet don't show up to vote or listen to the school board meetings.
Voting is literally all day. I was in and out in less than 4 minutes. Most people have the time, they just don't make the effort.

Do you vote for your school board?
Yeah. This year is really unique on LI because of critical race theory being a major factor.

Never have until this year. I never knew how entangled the teacher's union is with the BOE. Sickening. Their response to COVID was terrible. They put the teachers first and the kids dead last. I hope my district votes them all out!

Critical race theory was a big issue in our school board election in Texas, too.

I do. We don’t have children but I always vote based on what the local moms discuss (including my SIL) about what’s going on.

Re: Do you vote for your school budget and board?
Our school budget passed, and we have brand-new BOE members. Doesn't mean that things will be fixed, but at least with new people, there's a chance things will be different.

I voted against my budget and no one ran against anyone on the board in my district.
It unfortunately passed. And there was horrible turn out. Less than a 1000 people voted!

We had less than half as many votes as students in the district. Yes, there are siblings, but there are also multiple parents, and people without kids in the district. There really should be a lot more people voting....

For those of you who vote no, do you understand how things work if the budget isn't passed? Teacher salaries are set in stone according to contracts. They will never be reduced. If the budget isn't passed, the only people that get screwed are the students. The first things that get cut are extracurricular programs that the students enjoy.

Very true and IME, the budgets are usually pass the 2nd time around so it is a waste of time unless their plan B is extremely better than plan A.

I have voted every year since my kids were starting in the school system - and a couple of times before that but I didn't make as much of a conscious effort.
We had an "upset" on the BOE - the teachers were endorsing 2 candidates but only 1 won. The other was a bit condescending to parents this year and it showed at the polls - so the former president, who had retired last year, was voted back in.
