Is this normal? Noise/party related
It’s 3:30am on a school/work night and my neighbors teenage son (senior in high school) is again having a big bash in the backyard (or maybe it’s just a few very loud kids blasting the music). I can’t sleep because the music is blasting and the kids are so loud. They have a large pool and the splashing and sound of water running sounds like it’s 3pm on a Saturday. This goes on constantly these days - several times per week. I am confused what kind of parents would allow this especially since they have three younger children in the house. Maybe they just have better windows than us? ?? I know the family and do not feel comfortable complaining but I had to vent somewhere because I am exhausted. My kids are younger so maybe I am out of the loop but does this seem very odd that parents would allow their high school senior to throw parties/get together on weekdays and not care about the impact on the neighbors? And what kind of example is it setting for their younger kids? Frankly, it has made me view this family in an entirely different way.
ETA: if by chance you are reading this and thinking - is this post about me??? Please go in the backyard and tell your son and his friends to turn down the music and be quiet!!!!! It’s now 4am! Have some decency and teach your children to have some too!

I think it’s unacceptable and would either talk with their parents or call the police.
ETA: it would be unacceptable to me even if it was a weekend and they were adults. It’s one thing at 11/12 but 3am!!!

I’d call the police too 11pm is the latest for most parties etc
I get it once in a while but your situation is insane and chances are your other neighbors feel the same way

Re: Is this normal? Noise/party related
Are there other neighbors that might hear it too and you can ask them as maybe someone has said something already?
Is this a regular thing as maybe they don’t have school tomorrow so that is why they were up so late? If it is a one time thing I probably wouldn’t say anything.
I would have yelled out the window to be quiet and see what happened after that lol

Any chance the parents are away for the holiday weekend and the kid didn't want to go? Maybe they don't know about it.
ETA: I have a senior in high school and would never allow that. Would have ended by midnight at my house.

I would call the police. We had neighbors that did the same thing a few years back. 2 or 3 in the morning multiple times a week. We called the police every time. If it was the first time it ever happened, I'd give it a pass but more than once....call the police.

My guess is the parents are out of town. I’d go ring the doorbell during the day and tell them they need to keep it down or you’re calling the police. I wouldn’t immediately call the cops on a family it sounds like you previously had an ok relationship with.

Re: Is this normal? Noise/party related
This would infuriate me. I can't stand inconsiderate people. The teenagers may be young and stupid but their parents should know better.
I've seen people post things like this on facebook groups and so many people write things like "I guess you were never young. Let them have fun." Those responses make me so mad. You can have fun without disturbing others at 3 am.

Re: Is this normal? Noise/party related
Do you have the parent's phone number? I would call them at 3am while this is happening and ask them to stop the party. That's ridiculous. I am not a big police caller for something like this but if it happened more than a couple times I would call the town or village and see if something can be done. As a last resort I would call the police.

Call the police. There are noise ordinances and they are obviously violating them. I have to wonder if the parents are out of town.

Re: Is this normal? Noise/party related
It sounds like you have at least a decent relationship with them. I would walk over there, knock on the door and tell them to cool it. Right then at 3:30 a.m. If I'm up, we are all going to be up. i have an older stepchild. If my neighbor woke me up at 330 am to tell me her splashing around in the pool and music were keeping them up, I would be mortified. Or just yell over the fence to the kids if you know the son well enough.

I am thinking parents and younger kids were away and senior in h.s. thought it would be cool to throw a neverending party. I would bring it up to the parents if it keeps happening, but I'll be they were away. I would have sent my dh over there to tell them to keep it down!

Re: Is this normal? Noise/party related
I have a neighbor who's kids were "popular" and they used to throw parties like this also. The parents actually condoned it (other neighbors described them as trying to be the "cool parents"). Some parents are totally fine with these kinds of shenanigans.
