Anyone doing the Run Around the Lake?

Anyone doing this year's annual run?
It was cancelled last year because of Covid, but it's back on this year.
Because of logistics, it's at Blydenburgh County Park's lake, not Lake Ronkonkoma.
Once again, I'll be volunteering at one of the water stations with my Troop. I've been volunteering here for about 5 years now. The run has been going for 40 years. It was renamed and dedicated to Michael Murphy in 2012.
All of the proceeds go to various charities that help wounded veterans and/or families of veterans.

Anyone doing the Run Around the Lake?
Didn't realize it's at Blydenburgh this year. I've done this race in the past (as you may recall) but am not registered for this year. I was thinking about signing up last minute. Is the race actually IN the park? That's a very different event than on paved streets etc. And those trails are pretty narrow for such a big event. I've walked those trails many times - should be interesting! Good luck tomorrow!

Yes, you can sign up last-minute. We had a volunteers meeting yesterday. The staff told us that they had over 2,000 people currently registered, and expected about 1,200 more people to sign up tomorrow morning.
For the 5k, it's all inside the park, but not around the lake. For the 15k, it's mostly in the park, but some of it is in a nearby neighborhood.

We had the primary water station for the 15k run. Because the run looped around a neighborhood twice, every runner came by our station 3 times. There were 600 people running the 15k, so we had 1800 total people coming past us for water, PowerAde, and snacks.
Since all of the proceeds help a lot of wounded warriors and families of wounded and fallen soldiers, it's an honor to volunteer for this every year.
Next year, they are fully expecting it to be around Lake Ronkonkoma again.

I have wanted to this for years. I was away this year for a race in Rhode Island. Maybe next year.
