Neighborhood house heading to foreclosure - update
So my neighbor put a reverse mortgage on her home, went into a nursing home, and basically, her home is now owned I believe by the state of NJ (as where the nursing home is).
Her son lived there until 2-3 years ago when he moved out so it is vacant. For the past 2-3 years, he did maintain the outside of the home (mowing, etc) and some neighbors do the leaves in the fall while they are doing theirs...
Anywho - it's now under control of a property management company and they are HORRIBLE! I filed a complaint because the guy came last week and only mowed 1/2 of the yard (most of the property is on the side of the house and he mowed one side). So he came back today, I was thinking he'd fix it - wrong, he did absolutely nothing (I didn't realize until the end - I saw him going to trim a bush, thinking after sitting for awhile he was going to do stuff but he cut off one branch, took a pic, and left).
Has anyone ever dealt with this? How long does it take for the house to fully enter foreclosure? There are no tenants, squatters or anything - it's a vacant house, in a nice neighborhood, on a nice piece of property with nice neighbors. It just looks worse since the property mgmt co took over.
Update - well, the grass finally got long enough to contact the town. They are going to reach out to the management company with a list of violations (unregistered car, dead tree, grass 1 ft in places)....

Re: Neighborhood house heading to foreclosure
A similar thing happened to us. But there were squatters. It was almost 10 years before the house was able to go to auction. Then the new buyer had to PAY the squatters to leave...because if he had to go to court to get them out it would have taken way longer and he needed to flip the house quickly. It was a mess. It astounds me how long this can go on.

Ugh! The guy had a buyer about 5 or 6 years ago but then decided not to sell since he'd get nothing out of it regardless (other than a free place to live for a couple of years until he was officially asked to leave).
I worked for a company that owned a company that took care of mowing and such for homes that were in foreclosure and such - and I saw they got bad reviews - now I know why (and it's not this company).

Neighborhood house heading to foreclosure
I have a similar situation across the street from me, only the house is still owned by the property owners who moved away. The house is totally dilapidated, and they come once every 6 weeks and only mow the front. The back is about 6 feet high and there is no fence to hide it.
On a side note, my sister is living in her house and has not paid her mortgage since 2008. It was sold at auction and is now bank owned (a Delaware bank) for the last three years, yet no one has asked them to leave or anything. They still have the power and water on, and are virtually squatters yet no one says a word. I don't get what is going on.

Re: Neighborhood house heading to foreclosure
It may be worth a few neighbors mowing the law so it does not look like an eyesore to attack vermin, insects, or anything else.

We were told not to touch the property. My DH spoke to the guys who came to change the locks and there are signs that say no tresspassing.

I know the process takes long and is a bit insane (especially due to backlog stemming from the 2008 crisis - yes, still!) but, it is crazy.

Neighborhood house heading to foreclosure
That sucks...can you complain to to the town and have them reach out to the property management company. I'm sure if they start getting fined then they will do what they should..
ETA: I know the foreclosure process in NY & NJ took forever even before COVID...I can only imagine now it will take longer.

I'm going to - but they only fine if it's 12 inches and it's not quite there yet (but, I'm sure it will be by next week).
