It’s a $hit show for sure and the most irrational idea ever! Where have been people eating all this time when eating out? Are they wearing masks while seating down? No. While eating? No. So what difference does it make if kids don’t wear a mask while at their desks and at the cafeteria??? It’s mesmerizing the rationale of these people!
Not sure what eating out has to do with schools. I didn't eat out until I was vaccinated, my kids don't eat in restaurants bc they're unvaccinated and it's not a necessity like school is.
If you're reading the news, there are districts all over the south that are back to virtual after a week or two bc masks are optional which means one case leads to a ton of kids in quarantine. Personally, I want my kids to go to school and stay in school and masks are the logical way to do that. My kids never once had to quarantine last year bc masks work. As much as my kids would love to go mask free I'm not interested in quarantines or virtual school this year.
I literally have never heard anyone saying they (including their children) have never eaten in a restaurant during these long 1 1/2 yrs because they weren’t vaccinated. If that’s what u did and are still doing (ur kids), u’re free to do so. If u want ur kids to wear a mask to go to school, u’re free to do so as well but u can’t expect every single person to do the same. U’re imposing what u think it’s best on others and that’s crossing limits. I’d feel the same way if it was the other way around and people would prohibit u from wearing a mask. They can’t and shouldn’t impose what they think it’s best on u.
This is a false equivalency. It's not the same.
Someone's choice NOT to wear a mask potentially affects others in ways someone's choice TO wear one does not.

I don't care what other people choose to do in terms of eating in a restaurant. But other people's children not wearing a mask in school absolutely impacts my kids ability to attend in person school. That is crossing a line imo. They all wore the masks last year, they can wear the mask this year again.
I honestly think all the debate and contentious BOE meetings are going to be a waste of time bc I believe the state will impose a mandate. All that's happening now is people exposing their inability to understand science and basic cause and effect.

Does anyone really think kids will EVER be able to go to school maskless again? I'm starting to think probably not. Every year will be another variant. I feel bad that they will probably never have a normal school experience again. I just don't see it happening.

Coming from a state like NY, I def think mask mandates will happen again. And please, can we stop saying people that oppose or doubt masks or vaccines don’t understand or believe in science? First of all ur assumptions are incorrect and second, science also shows the opposite. If u don’t want to accept that because u only want to believe in the science that mainstream tells u then that’s a different story. But I won't go there cause this topic has been discussed wayyyyyyy too many times.

What's sad is that if all the eligible people got vaccinated back in the spring I fully believe that this school year would have been normal.

Not really if you look at what's going on in Isreal. So i doubt that. Maybe they need to work on the vaccine .
in case you missed it
"One of the most vaccinated societies, Israel now has one of the highest infection rates in the world, raising questions about the vaccine’s efficacy"
So maybe we can stop beating that old drum...

Probably not in states like NY. Just like u said, every year will be another variant. Then mask and vaccine mandates will be a “normal” thing everywhere u turn, all while blaming the unvaccinated. There will be more and more restrictions and they will become stricter than the previous ones until people realize how dangerous it was to let Big Government assume so much control, hopefully it won’t be too late by then.

Agree. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t like to get uncomfortable/inconvenienced and they’d much prefer go with the flow.

I just read that Massapequa school district isn’t requiring masks. They are also taking the plastic barriers down, no health checks and there will be no remote instruction offered. They came to this from studying the summer programs
ETA: that could change when the new governor takes office

Yes!!!
I wonder if SD will drop the mask mandate in the coming days so that the governor will be the bad guy mandating them.

This! And it’s not just about masks, it’s about the vaccine that after saying it was good for 6 months they said it was good for longer but now we all need a booster.

We are in NYC DOE (Queens) which doesn't start for the kids until 9/13. As usual, I am sure we will know nothing and even when we do, it will be constantly changed (I feel bad for the school administrators who are literally being told nothing but when things go south they are blamed for the crapshow).

Our district just came out with their plan. Masks are required, even on the bus, they can take their masks off when in lunch, gym, outside, and sports.

There is another post on this a few posts down.
Our district hasn't decided yet. The only district that has announced that masks are optional in the area is Plainedge. There are few in Western NY as well.
How did you hear this? I was talking to someone today and they seemed to think Plainedge will require masks. I didn't want to dispute her, so I searched their website and social media and there hasn't been anything.

Same. Not surprised. My kids will literally walk to school and put it on at the very last minute before walking in.

I suspect that even if masks are mandated in schools, compliance will be half ass and enforcement will be loose.

That's how it was by June this past year. Dd told me they were all pulling their masks down half the day in class and the teacher didn't say boo.

Farmingdale said for now masks optional for staff and students but that could easily change depending on data, guidance, etc.

So this is a crazy one -
Longwood schools mandating masks.
Shortly after a post with photos of staff standing and sitting near each other maskless in the school “disappeared” from their Facebook. Parents are outraged.
Search on Facebook “longwood masks”
The hypocrisy is mind boggling
