Birthday question

Would you find it odd if your brother or
sister didn’t bother to wish your child a happy birthday? No call, text, or FaceTime?

Birthday question

If the child’s birthday is today, I’d still give it time because it’s Sunday, and some people tend to have lazy starts.

If it was yesterday and they didn’t acknowledge it, if would depend on the type of relationship that exists and past behavior. Do they normally reach out for birthday wishes? Ideally you’d hope they’d reach out though.

Re: Birthday question

No but that’s only because my expectations are very low for my son’s aunts and uncles.

They should reach out of course but sometimes family sucks.

Sorry if someone’s feelings are hurt.

Re: Birthday question

Absolutely.
But I guess it would depend on your relationship with them on a day to day basis

Depends on your relationship with them.
We are close with my brother and my BIL so I would find it odd. I have friends who wouldn't find it odd at all.

No. I’d actually prefer they didn’t because then either DH or I have to talk to them, too

Birthday question

Not at all! All of my daughter’s aunts and uncles have kids and full time careers-things happen. My side generally gets together to celebrate birthdays but DH’s siblings live out of state so we only see them a few times a year.

Birthday question

If it were my sister, yes. She's very close with DD. If it were my brother, no. We're not that close.

Re: Birthday question

Yes except for my one brother who is not as close to us...we generally don't expect him to call my kids on their birthday, sometimes he will say it on social but we never expect it.

My other brother and my sister YES! We always call each others kids for their birthdays.

Re: Birthday question

Depends. If it was my sister, then yes because she would never forget. If it was DH's brother nope, because he doesn't even say hi. I, personally,"try" to always give the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Birthday question

Let me clarify, this wasn’t a one time thing. She actually never calls my kids on their birthday or even sends a happy birthday text. She has kids also. We always wish them a happy birthday. We are all pretty close. My daughter doesn’t care. I just find it odd. My aunts still send me cards for my birthday and my entire family wishes me a happy birthday including all of my cousins.

Is this your sibling or your husband’s sibling? I only ask because my DH’s family is obsessed with birthday texts, even from people they don’t like. I, and my entire family, couldn’t care less. If it’s your inlaws they might just not realize because it’s never been a big thing in their family.

Neither my DH or I are super close to our siblings. They rarely send birthday greetings. Its fine with us and our children don't know any different

Re: Birthday question

When kids are small, yes I would kinda expect bday wishes from my siblings. But we’re also a big family, I have a lot of siblings, there’s a lot of nieces and nephews so not wishing a happy bday especially when the kids are older, happens. It doesn’t really bother me.

Re: Birthday question

I would feel some type of way. My sister does call for my DS's birthday. However, she is scatter brain so if I noticed she didn't, I would probably remind her.
