January getaway
My DH is celebrating a milestone birthday in January. He wanted to go to Costa Rica but for a few reasons, we are exploring US destinations instead. Anyone have any ideas of locations and hotels/resorts? We are not bringing the kids and would prefer warmer locations. We will probably have 4-5 days so places like Hawaii are out unfortunately.

January getaway
We just went to Costa Rica in July and it was AMAZING! Loved every second of it. Rethink it! Totally worth it, and felt totally safe there!!
In the US, how about Southern California? Newport Beach is nice (Love Lido House hotel). San Francisco? We are going there in February. But I don't think it's warm. Warm in January you need FL, maybe Arizona. Sedona looks beautiful, but no idea about the weather.

I think you had posted pictures from your trip recently... or I may be mixing you up with someone else. I want to plan a trip to Costa Rica and have no idea where to start. Could you message me your itinerary?

That was me! As an FYI, they are requiring vaccinations to do anything in CR starting in January.
I went with my SO in July, so this isn't a kid friendly itinerary with the hotel we stayed at. But, we flew Jetblue from JFK into Liberia. Rented a car from Vamos (car rentals are expensive there because you need mandatory liability insurance, no way around it, but your credit card will cover the Collision insurance). Our rental was $500 for a week as an FYI.
We drove from Liberia to La Fortuna from the airport. It's an almost 3 hour drive. We stopped to eat at Macadamia Cafe in the mountain so we lost an hour of daylight. Our last hour was SCARY as heck because it gets darker than dark. The mountain is windy, roads are rough and it was pouring rain. No lights.
We stayed at Amor Arenal in La Fortuna in the rainforest, which is adults only. GORGEOUS property. So secluded, romantic, our Casita was brand new and had a little plunge pool on the deck. It was seriously the nicest place I've ever been! Amazing breakfast, such nice staff. We really loved it there. We saw red eyed tree frogs every night! We stayed there for 4 nights. Went to the Bogarin Sloth Trail and saw a lot of wildlife with a guide (You need a guide or you will see nothing, the sloths blend in). We saw monkeys, frogs, sloths, birds, so cool! We visited the La Fortuna Waterfall, swam in it, it was beautiful and amazing! We also visited the free hot springs one day, which is basically a hot river. We ate at the Sodas (local restaurants) in La Fortuna town and did some shopping. I wanted to do the hanging bridges at Mistico Park or zip lining, but my SO was having a knee problem, so we didn't venture out a lot.
After our 4 nights at Amor Arenal, we drove 3.5 hours back down the mountain to spend 3 nights at Playa Flamingo beach. We stayed at The Palms right on the beach in a 2 bedroom 3 bath villa. I found it on VRBO. It was so nice and this place was family friendly and I highly recommend it! Gorgeous sunset views! Soft sand, nice waves for boogie boarding. Very family friendly. We loved Playa Famingo! We mainly just hung at the pool and beach and ate locally. From there we visited Playa Portero which is a black sand beach with pink shells, so cool. We ate at a lot of local restaurants.
We didn't do a ton, but we had a really nice time. I would love to take my kids back there!
If you are taking your kids, The Springs is nice in La Fortuna and kid friendly. It's pricey, but everyone raves about it!
