Do you respond to wrong number texts?
Last night, I received a text saying something like "Are you Frankie from PoF? We messaged before, but didn't meet up. ..."
I responded with "I'm sorry, but you have the wrong number."
She responded with "Oh no, did I just text some rando guy?" And then she sent a selfie!
She's probably in her early 20s, so I responded with "No, you texted a random woman. Based on your photo, I'm probably your mother's age. So, please don't send photos to strangers!"
Then, she continues asking me what my hobbies are. I just said I'm busy at work and to delete my number.
I kind of feel bad for her. Why is she texting random people?
I'm not going to respond anymore, but I figured I'd ask what other people do in those situations.

Re: Do you respond to wrong number texts?
I have responded if I felt it was very important but after that I would not have as it sounds like a scam since you already said you had the wrong number.

Do you respond to wrong number texts?
No - I don't respond to random texts but typically, the ones that I get that are "random" are spam...
It seems kind of fishy that she's asking what your hobbies are and such...

Do you respond to wrong number texts?
If it sounded like a totally legit wrong number text, then I would respond just once and say “sorry wrong number”.

Do you respond to wrong number texts?
This thread got me remembering -- when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was in a massive whirlwind of anxiety and depression. I had my OBGYN's cell number once diagnosed (he was giving me recommendations for drs etc.). While I was waiting for test results which I knew were going to be positive I texted him and told him I was spiraling while waiting for "test results" and asked him to prescribe xanax....except I texted the wrong person. The person who responded to me was extremely kind and gentle and I still have the text because it meant so much to me...."Hi Brooke -- this is not Dr. ___ I think you have the wrong number. I dont know what you are going through but just breathe deep and know that you can get through it." When I apologized and told him/her thank for being kind, they responded " You're welcome. Stay positive and you got this!" ---- this TRULY made a hug difference for me, I cant even tell you....the kindness of strangers.

That is amazing! What a kind person - of all the wrong numbers you could have texted, something in the universe sent you to this person. (Years ago I encountered a similarly kind stranger - in person - when my mom was dying and I had to fly home, hysterical, in tears. I will never forget that person either)
ETA: To the original question, yes, I would respond that the person had reached the wrong number, but mostl likely would not engage beyond that

Re: Do you respond to wrong number texts?
like others have said, if it sounds like a legit wrong number i let them know and quickly move on after the obligatory "i'm sorry for the inconvenience" text that is soon to follow.

Re: Do you respond to wrong number texts?
I think the message you got is some sort of scam. My friend got an almost identical "wrong text" message a few months ago. The same situation happened...the person responded and sent a selfie...girl in her 20s. The initial message was something similar too...about some sort of missed connection and a dating app.
I found a link about this scam: Link

OMG I got something SO similar a free months ago! She used a funky font and said she was watching her aunt’s dog.

Do you respond to wrong number texts?
yes, I have to let the person they had the wrong number. People have done the same to me. I even called MD office or message left saying you have an appt... to let they know they called the wrong person. I would hate for someone to miss a call from their MD etc
