Another post ruined. I think I'm going to start keeping count.
It was my fault for bringing up being shocked by the $1500 spent on hanging lights.
Either way, not seeing any toy shortages really but my kids aren't very into toys anymore. Just the usual shortages of electronics like nintendo and playstation.
I haven't seen much of a shortage either, with the exception of some Xboxs, some Ipads and Gabby's dollhouse. That friggin dollhouse is going to be the death of me lol.
I am so glad I don't have to run around anymore looking for things. I did my time

Toy shortages
This is hysterical! Why is there a juice box shortage? That’s what I am noticing.

I know! That and paper plates. But I think it's a supply issue for specific suppliers because what Stop & Shop is always out of - I have found easily at Target.

I read some of the posts not all. I thought the true idea of Christmas was not about gifts. Isn't it about the birth of Christ. Shortage or not, it's a good lesson there is more to this holiday and life than hundreds or thousands of dollars spent on toys. Less is actually more.
Exactly but are you new to all of this? People get worse every year with more decorations and gifts. It’s all a competition unfortunately.
I'm not new to this, I think its absurd every year when people talk about spending hundreds or thousands of dollar on each child, not just on this holiday but easter etc. We are a very wasteful country in many respects. The amount of ordering on line, just because... crazy to me. I understand To many people it's not.
It's a competition because adults allow it to be, I'm not sure why either. Growing up, if I wanted something because others had it, my father would say, what Mr & Mrs have in their home/own is good for them, in this house we dont have it. End of story
Agreed. It’s not going to stop unfortunately though as things seem to get worse. Everyone wants bigger and better. Look at Halloween. The decorating was crazy this year. One trying to outdo the rest.
Or, maybe some people just really enjoy decorating - for themselves, not as a so called competition. Maybe you see everything that way, but not everyone does. I buy gifts for people I love and care about because I really enjoy doing something to make them happy - whether it's a $20 gift or a $100 gift doesn't matter. What matters to me is trying to do something for someone else. It's not a competition unless you make it one. Are most holidays over-commercialized? Sure. But it's extremely cynical to believe that it's all about "competition."
I'm not sure if this is in reply to my post. I'm not saying decorating is a competition, though perhaps some neighbors are competing for fun. Over commercialized, I agree!! but why does it continue to be some commercialized, because of all the individuals that feed into it. The same goes for the shortage. The more people place orders for fear because the news is constantly saying, supplies are limited, the higher the cost for something you have on order for a year, why..
Yes, I'm of the belief people feel pressure to out do others, in many situations, gifts, parties, weddings. I'v felt it, seen it and hear about, and I don't understand the need to spend a certain amount on gifts because it's Christmas. The holiday isn't about gifts, if buying for the love of it or to make someone happy, that's wonderful, but why wait. Buy those you love a gift throughout the year, why is it done for this Holiday.
Whatever you spend on this or any holiday is you business, this is just my opinion.
adding, never mind. I was going to add

Agreed!!! I think it has gotten worse over the years and now some people don't even want others to say Santa brought this or that because it might harm the kids who get less. It is really sad. I have a friend whom will NEVER show Christmas morning or gifts on social media. Her kids are older now but through the years she said she felt it was not to show and I respect her for that as I get tired of seeing people's pictures of the piles and piles of gifts. Who knows if her kids get 1 gift or 100. I am leaning towards more on the side of a lot because I know her and her family BUT it really is no one's business and that is how it should be. Once again, when they commercialize things like...5 months of bills...it is not because people can afford all the stuff they are buying, it is because retailers know there is so much competition to keep up or go over and beyond, people will spend more at certain times and for certain things and go into debt or pay for extended periods of time just to be included.
I have been on vacations with people and they are like, yeah, we just put this on our credit card and we will pay it off until next year's vacation. All great I guess if you are getting points or such on your card but it is a never ending cycle of spending money you don't have. I like the feeling of the day after Christmas and coming back from vacation with owing no money.
