Does anyone know if the other strains of COVID are gone or are people still getting them? Has it completely mutated into Omicron or are the other variants still out there?
Delta is still a significant %.
It's actually about 95% Omicron as of yesterday.
I think Alpha is pretty much gone and Delta is on it's way out.
But now there is IHU discovered in France from Africa...
The problem seems to be it's mutating in Africa...
Perhaps a better game plan would be for vaccines to go there instead of hoarding the vaccines at the top and pushing to booster young healthy people in first world nations? Idk. Just a thought.

I wish by winning it would mean that someone in control would listen! We’ve pledged vaccines to less fortunate countries and have only donated a small fraction, and I think they were J&J or even AstraZeneca that we never used. A lot of them were nearing expiration so they couldn’t be used.
The WHO has stated this as well.
They also have to work to tweak the vaccines as new strands come out. Continually getting a booster that is great for the alpha strain isn’t going to help for long.
ETA - the CDC reports that over 78% of Americans 12+ are vaccinated - we shouldn’t have this many people hospitalized at this point if the vaccines lessen severity. I know some people who are hospitalized test positive when in for other reasons but some are sick with Covid…

But we were never dealing with anything even close to say Ebola level death rates even during the times with the most oppressive of restrictions.
You'd never know it by the way some people talk and act.
cause reality is people are dying from covid and it is still a lot of people even if % wise its low compare to all the people in the world. Lots of people probably have had close people die to them so they see it. and if you are lucky enough to not experience that you wont look at it the same way.
a family just lost the mom to covid the dad i think lost partial leg due to covid. that's pretty serious and def. shakes people up.
but with all that said; i am over restrictions and think its to time to loosen them all up every where.
But see you hear these stories but NEVER hear about the issues they had before and with covid. I would say the majority of people who have died had other things that exacerbated covid. The healthy people are most likely a very minimum. You don't always know you have an issue until it is too late.
So because they had issues it’s ok??!! Issues or not it’s not ok. What’s considered issues??!! I am sure the list is long and most people would qualify as it.
Either way any death is NOT OK even if there were underlying issues. 2 young children lost their mother that’s not ok.
I am still over all the restrictions I think they should be removed but I’m certainly not insensitive and not naïve to think that I can be one of those people that die if I get it (though I am vaccinated )or my kids have a risk if I don’t vaccinate them they can get it and be serious I’ll and die. I’m also not insensitive or naïve to think that if I do get to vaccinate there’s a risk that they may die or get a very bad side Effect.
That’s her only rebuttal. They PROBABLY had other health issues. That makes it justifiable that they died and all restrictions and precautions should be lifted bc sally died of Covid but she also had a hangnail. Let her justify it to those who have lost otherwise healthy mothers, fathers, children……. See if she can justify it for them.

Of course not. But nobody bats an eye at taking precautions to NOT die in a car accident. In fact it’s illegal to not strap in.

People who are immunocompromised have ALWAYs had a higher mortality rate you do realize that right???..this includes when those people contract the flu, pneumonia or any of the other nasty viruses out there that have been around for ages. The difference is that we have never locked down a country for 2 years, kept our kids out of schools and forced people to take a shot or lose their livelihood. I mean do you not see that?? At this point COVID is not going away let those people who want to live in lockdown continue to do so but for the rest of us, the MAJORITY of us we are ready to go back to normal

I feel so privileged that you only come on here to attack me. It's like..hmmm...maybe you are obsessed with me.
Maybe because it IS a rebuttal and many don't want to address it. Never said ALL have had other health issues but even my son's doctor, yes a REAL Endocrinologist, told us that the majority of people who were in the hospital were obese and have diabetes. Guess that is just his rebuttal and how he justifies the situation.

Yes. This is where we are at right now. The flu can kill you too. Many other things can kill you. And yes, as much as people don't' want to face it, having comorbidities will increase your risk of ANY disease being deadly. It's a fact. Does it mean that young healthy people can't die of it? No Same thing with other viruses. Sometimes that happens. With no reasoning. But why are we focusing on only this? It is becoming clearer and clearer by the day that something is off here. More and more people are seeing that this is no way to live. Even the ones who were paranoid and reheating take out food in the beginning. It can't be like this forever. And the way it's looking it's going to be. So you can chose to live in fear, that's fine. But let the rest of the world go back to life

Right but we don't stop people from getting in cars and driving. We try to minimize the risk but we don't end the activity because it poses some risk to some people. Clearly you aren't following the logic.

A majority of those hospitalized are unvaccinated plus the statistic about how many people are vaccinated doesn’t mean much if a majority of those people were vaccinated at least 6 months ago. This strain is also much more easily transmitted. While the positive cases are out of control and hospitalizations have certainty increased, I don’t think the hospitalizations have had nearly the same rate of increase as the overall positive cases. This is likely due to the strain being milder as well as the vaccine.
I read an article the other day that a team in TX used older technology to create a low cost vaccine that has been effective with the earlier strains. It’s unclear how effective it is with this strain, but the vaccine has been authorized for use in India and is being sent there. I agree that if we can get effective vaccines to other countries at a low cost, that should be the priority. At this point, the people who want to get vaccinated here have already done so. This is a global issue and we need to tackle this beyond our borders.

Exactly, thank you.
Good luck getting an answer from her.
I am pretty well educated so of course I understand that the immunocompromised are at greatest risk of death. Windy likes to say how those dying are most likely dying b/c they have health conditions they don't even know they have. Like that justifies the deaths. I'll be sure to tell my sister in law.. PERFECTLY HEALTHY sister in law that all of you want everyone to move on from this "cold" and stop letting the media scare us. I'll tell her that once she is off the ventilator.. hopefully i'll get the chance. I'm sure she will get a good laugh like the rest of you who think this is all a smoke and mirror show and political game.

Tsk tsk, twisting my words again. I NEVER said ANY death was justified. I said the MAJORITY of people who die have other issues. Are you denying that?
So sorry to hear about your SIL. NO ONE said healthy people were NOT getting sick. We have said that MOST, DO have issues.
Again healthy can mean many things to many people. Usually when you get to a certain age, you have SOME type of issue in life.

The meme posted on a different thread and those types of posts and the cheering and laughter that ensued are 100% insensitive to those who are living the nightmare firsthand. I'm sure folks like my SIL will get a huge laugh out of those posts and people making a joke out of their hell. Hopefully I'll get to share with her. I'm sure she will get a good chuckle. I'll let her share that with her kids too. TRUST me, they could use a laugh right now. I'm sure that they are mad that their mom got a cold and couldn't get over it.

I hope, especially for her kids sake she recovers quickly. No one should have to deal with that, especially children.

Like she told u before, no one is justifying anything or making fun of anyone or anyone’s situation. What is it always the extreme with some of u guys?? It is a fact that a good amount of people that have complications with covid, it’s because they have prior health issues. It is not an opinion, it is a fact whether some of u want to admit it or not. No one is saying every person with a serious case of covid has an underlying health issue but a good amount do.

I just find a lot of the posts from this camp to be completely insensitive.
It is a horrible thing, no one said otherwise. She has NO issues, AT.ALL? I just find that so odd as like I said before, most adults have something, even if it is minor.
I hope, especially for her kids sake she recovers quickly. No one should have to deal with that, especially children.
no she does not
Like she told u before, no one is justifying anything or making fun of anyone or anyone’s situation. What is it always the extreme with some of u guys?? It is a fact that a good amount of people that have complications with covid, it’s because they have prior health issues. It is not an opinion, it is a fact whether some of u want to admit it or not. No one is saying every person with a serious case of covid has un underlying health issue but a good amount do.
I don't understand why pointing out FACTS about co-morbidities is such an issue. Is it because that goes against the fear mongering agenda? The agenda that will keep everyone scared and in triple masks and schools remote and getting 14 vaccines a year forever? It's like saying- most cases of lung cancer are in smokers. Smoking is a big cause of lung cancer. Do people get bent out of shape at that because there are people out there who get lung cancer and never smoked a day in their lives?

So let me ask you then.. the meme the other day that I believe you posted and these other posters laughed at and and gave you props for posting... that isn't mocking a serious situation? Where are your posts and memes making fun of and downplaying lung cancer then if that is your comparison? In my opinion, that is insensitive and downright cruel to those of us that take this seriously with good reason b/c it has hit way too close to home. I am not scared b/c of the media... i am not saying that most in serious condition don't have health issues.. I'm saying be mad if you want that you have to wear a god forsaken mask, but quit mocking the rest of us... that's all. Now I'm done b/c instead of 2 kids to care for I now have five until god only knows when and they will be home from school soon.

Because like I have said before, they don't WANT people to have a healthy lifestyle. They LOVE all these control to keep people sick and in fear of getting sick. Instead of doing take out alcohol again, how about choosing something healthier. Maybe the state can pay for gym memberships or give out coupons for fruits and vegetables and vitamins or pay for physicals.

Pretty much. It’s much easier to deny, deny, deny and believe every single thing that comes from those with “authority” than to allow urself to have one ounce of doubt to anything they say. It’s easier to disbelieve or discredit anything that’s out of someone’s comfort zone. But what we all need to understand is that it’s ok to question those with “authority”, it is o-k-a-y.
