Those of you who no longer have cable...
I want to cut the cord but DH is giving me a really hard time about it. How do you watch the news in real time? That's his main concern. I'm not super savvy with stuff like this so if you are a religious ABC news viewer, how would you watch it so you can watch the news in real time? And for me the Bachelor? LOL

Those of you who no longer have cable...
We only have basic cable which is like $20 a month or something. It includes the network channels, news12, and a couple other things we don't watch. We have Prime, Disney Plus and Netflix that we stream from. We need to have internet, and Optimum is the only provider for that, so we can't cut ties with them. We also have a phone line with them (I prefer a "landline" for my kids to be able to call out in an emergency)

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
I think you can have a subscription to them and watch it live via a fire stick. I’m not sure about ABC news but I know we can watch football games live on our fire stick. They also always go on sale on Amazon.

Those of you who no longer have cable...
A few years ago, my husband purchased an antenna. He put it in the attic and connected it to one TV. We get all the regular channels, plus a bunch more (things like COZI TV, Decades, Buzzer (old game shows), etc.) I love it! I like the channels on that TV much more than the basic cable ones on the other TV.
Depending on the set-up of your house, that could work. I think it was about $100.

I feel like whichever way you go its expensive. We have a fire stick and you can get a streaming app with live channels. We used to have sling and have had hulu with live tv and we woild just cancel then reinstate when sports were back on. Then My husband had to have YES network to watch the NETS blay basketball and the only streaking service that had it was AT&T (now directTV Stream) well now they don't offer it so we are gandfathered in to an old plan at $90 a month which I can't cancel because then we'll lose that channel. So between that, the price of internet/phone and our other subscriptions it's probably costing as much as cable would be...

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
There are no cheap answers if you want live programming, and especially if you want news like CNN or Fox News. I have YouTube TV and when I add the cost for that and the cost for internet, I could probably get a triple play promo with either Verizon or Optimum for about the same money.
With YouTube TV i can watch all the live channels on the road on my ipad or iphone which is an added benefit and something the cable companies cannot offer. So I stick with this option.

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
I feel like by the time you're done paying for all these different streaming services and firesticks and subscriptions you might as well just have cable- turn the TV on, everything in one place...done Too annoying I'd rather pay even a bit more for convenience

Those of you who no longer have cable...
When I lived in nyc, e were able to get JUST Internet with time Warner for $50 a month. We had an antennae called the leaf and got basic TV. Then we streamed Netflix. It was great! Moving back to LI, the antennae was weak and we barely got anything. Just1 really old movie channel not even 2 or 4.. Then trying to get just Internet with fios or optimum was ridiculous so we had to get a triple play package. It was harder to cut the cord out here.

We cut the cord a few months ago and couldn’t be happier. I was so scared because I didn’t know how to do it but looking back, I should have done it sooner. Loaded up the 5 TV’s with firesticks, went with YouTube tv and kept WiFi only through optimum. Saving a ton of money and really enjoying the set up of YouTube tv

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
We cut the cord maybe 6 months ago? I dont miss it.
But yes like others have said, do you really save a ton with streaming? Not really but heres my breakdown.
we were paying about $268 a month with Verizon for internet and TV. (had movie channels we never even watched).
BUT we also had netflix, hulu and amazon. ( dont count amazon though since its part of my prime)
we now pay 77 a month for just internet.
BUT my husband needs his sports and i wanted bravo and news channels.
so in comes FUBO for 69.99 a month...
so 69.99 + 77 = 147 a month as opposed to 268
plus the streaming services we still have - so we save a little over 100 cutting out cable.

Thanks for the breakdown! That's a $1200/year savings. That's not chump change by any means. I'm paying roughly the same with Verizon. I never really thought about it but when I did the math and realized we pay over $3k a year to watch TV, I was pretty appalled. Not that I'm willing to give up my TV habit either LOL

We just got rid of our phone and our bill for TV and internet is going down from $190 to $150. We have no extra channels like HBO/SHO but not basic.

I cut the cord and use YouTubeTV - it has all the live channels (ABC, NBC, CBS and news channels like CNN, Fox etc. Plus things like TLC, Bravo, HGTV, etc. I was paying close to $300/month with FIOS for 3 TVs. Now I pay about half of that for internet and YouTubeTV (plus I have Prime and Apple TV for free right now through some promotion)

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
We cut cable and switched to YouTube TV and wish we did it sooner. We were paying almost $260/ month with Optimum under a very old package (Silver IO) which was changing. We now have YT TV w the added HBO and Showtime/Starz channels and its still cheaper w internet factored in..with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Philo its about $165 a month..way cheaper than 260/Month. Definitely recommend leaving cable.
EDIT: we also have Amazon Prime so i dont count it toward monthly total.

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
We are formally cutting cord this month as our contract is up but that being said, we hardly even watch live TV anyway. We only had the package because it was such a great deal when we bought the house two years ago.
We're a HUGE streaming family and have been for years, we love it because everything is on demand whereas with cable you're locked into their cr@ppy broadcasting. These days there are so many streaming options that you can easily create a "package" of apps and channels that best suit your needs and interests.

Re: Those of you who no longer have cable...
I cut down to Basic 3 months ago. Then last week I cut Cable out completely.
We still have Internet and phone.
Everything we watch is streamed. Hulu, Netflix, etc. so it didn't make a difference.
Most or some Smart TV's do have live news. Just not that local. I think one of the channels we have on our TV is News 12 Connecticut (but we live on LI).

No, we tried to drop our phone, and then your internet goes up, so either way you are screwed.

No landline phone.
Internet, once contract up this month, will be I believe around $70ish/month.
We spend well over a hundred on streaming services, we have a mix of TV apps, movie apps and music apps. We pay for Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Pandora, Spotify, Disney, Discovery Channel, Hallmark, Paramount, etc.
The nice thing about streaming is that it can be as little or as much as you want it to be, depends on your personal interests and budget. Many give free trials so you can play around until you decide what you like.
Even if it's a break even, having on demand content is SO much nicer than broadcast television.
