Has anyone received a refund from student loans?
DH told me that his co-worker's wife received a $30,000 refund check from student loans. He had no further information at all other than it had to do with a "new program". She is in her 50's and is a school teacher. Has anyone heard of this?

Navient just settled some lawsuit and is suppose to forgive student loan debt for some or offer a reimbursement. I heard that won't be until the spring at some point though, it was just in the news last week.

There is a temporary waiver in place for people in the public service loan forgiveness program that allows payments under ANY payment plan to count towards loan forgiveness (given that you meet all other program specs including being employed full time by a not-for-profit). People who paid over 120 payments but were in the wrong payment plan are eligible for a refund *if* they had the right loan type and their loan has NOT been paid in full. I'm happy for the people receiving forgiveness / refunds, but there is so much misinformation about this process. I lost out on a ton of $$$$$ because of misinformation I was fed by my student loan lender and online sources. If you want to read more about the waiver, here is the link to the federal language.

Re: Has anyone received a refund from student loans?
DH was turned down years ago for forgiveness bc he was not in an income sensitive repayment program.
He signed on to his loan the other day. Zero balance. I wondered if it was sold or moved to another loan company.
He called and spoke to someone who said it was forgiven, and we should expect a refund check of funds we paid past 2017 when he completed the 120 payments.
We have not received anything in writing.

You should reapply now. They will count those payments as long as you were employed full time by a not for profit organization. I had the wrong loan type for the last 14 years.

Are all school districts considered not for profits or is it only lower income school districts? My DH is a teacher and I feel like we have been paying student loans for the last 15 years! I'd love to have his loans forgiven.
