S/O to best Mom advice - What's your best life advice?
We've all had different and varying experiences in life. If someone asked you what's the best piece of life advice you could offer what would you say!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I live by this quote: "Do more of what makes you happy".
Whatever that is. Whatever brings you joy and happiness, do that. Every day. As much as you can. We only get one shot at this whole life thing, don't take a minute for granted and don't waste time doing things you hate. Make time for all of the things that set your soul on fire!

Pick your battles. It is very hard, especially with kids but some things are just not worth it.
Social media is not real life. Mental health has lacked more because of it.
Don't just spend or save. You need to have a balance. Make sure the bills are paid, put some in some type of savings and have some money to enjoy life.
My famous sayings...
It is what it is That's how the cookie crumbles Google it

Re: S/O to best Mom advice - What's your best life advice?
You can't change other people - you can only change yourself.
Also: Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Those two pieces have helped me a lot in my life.
Another one: Don't sweat the small stuff - and it's ALL small stuff. I try to remember that, but it's a little hard for me.

I’m not a big life advice person. But this is one quote I have framed (I have very few decorations in my home and prefer to be as minimalist as possible— white walls and functional furniture, with cats, lol):
“Actually, I just woke up one day and decided I didn't want to feel like that anymore, or ever again. So I changed. Just like that.”
And I also like “Love people, not things”.

I tell all of my Scouts, and many other people: Failure should never be your first option.
Not that failure isn't an option. You just shouldn't start off immediately thinking that something can't be done.

To add to this sentiment, I love the quote "Fail forward". Meaning that we'll all stumble and fail at some point but don't let it set you back, keep moving forward even when you fail. Just reassess and pivot.

I LOVE that first quote, I wrote it in one of my journals. I have definitely taken it to heart in this last year.

Re: S/O to best Mom advice - What's your best life advice?
Don't feel pressured to say yes to everything- your time has value only do what you truly want.
By nature I think a lot of people are people pleasers -I totally am and I used to always so Yes to everything, in my old age I say Yes to fewer things I cut out a lot of the crap I really didn't enjoy.
Also I find people often ask very forward or nosey questions- like "oh how much does that cost" or "why don't you have kids" I now turn it around so stuff I don't want to answer I ask the person "why do you ask" which most of the time makes them think- shit I've crossed a line.

I've seen a related quote that I like: "Givers need to know their limits because Takers never do."

That is a great saying and advice.
Some of my favs...
No is a complete sentence.
The easiest decision is not always the right one. Doing what is right even when it's the hardest choice is still the right thing.
Happiness is not the absence of problems....it's the ability to deal with those problems.

Re: S/O to best Mom advice - What's your best life advice?
the best one: when people show you who they are, believe them.
*after a million years of being gas lit, i didn't trust my gut or my eyes. it took a LOT of work to see who people really are and to trust how i feel.
others i come back to time-to-time: ** not my circus, not my monkeys ** no reply is a reply (or something like that) ** yes comes quickly, no never comes ** everything will work out in the end. if it hasn't worked out, it's not the end.
honorable mention lol (because they are in spanish) and they're proverbs, not advice: ** cria fama y acuestate a dormir literally: create a reputation and go to sleep. your reputation will do the work for you. ** el diablo no sabe por diablo, sino por viejo literally: the devil isn't wise because he's the devil, but because he's old. with age comes wisdom.
my grandmother said these all the time (especially the second).

Generalizations are typically useless.
Staying calm can go a long way.
Make yourself a priority.

Yes, another one. Everything always works out. It does, maybe not like you want it or expect it, but it does.
Oh I have another one:
We plan, God laughs

In addition to a lot of the above I am fond of saying if someone is not paying rent do not let them occupy your brain with trouble.

The Maya Angelou quote - when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.
Also, not all people get what they deserve (good or bad). You will always be angry until you accept that fact.
And this one. The cream always rises to the top. It may take awhile but its inevitable.

Don't let anyone take advantage of you. Physically, mentally, financially...know your worth and know when to get rid of toxic people in your life.

Re: S/O to best Mom advice - What's your best life advice?
Stop caring what others think of you.
Which also goes in hand with who cares what’s popular what’s In style. Which in turn goes with stop trying to keep up with joneses.
Do what you want get what you like and who cares if others don’t like it.
Also stop believing everything you read/see on social media. a good majority of it is not someone’s real life and when it comes to politics or science please do your own damn research!
ETA : I know someone else at this quote above but this is also one of my all-time favorite quotes that I really do believe in. “Everything works out in the end. if it hasn't worked out yet, then it's not the end“
