Swim Lessons?
Where is everyone going for swim lessons for the kids now a days? Saf-T-Swim is up to $67.50 per 1/2 hour class? I don’t remember it being that high a few years ago with my older one.

Check out your town pools. Most town pools offer swimming lessons at great prices.

I’m in NJ and my son is older but I just moved to a new town and it was $25 for a two week session. I didn’t have high expectations but my son is such a stronger swimmer now and they taught him how to dive this summer.
Also maybe check a YMCA, my son used to do swim lessons there when he was little and it wasn’t as expensive as the other places.

Safety Swim has nerve charging that considering their instructors are 14 year old kids with no training. I know this because my cousin's teenaged kids worked there. I also took my own son there and his instructor was a sweet 14 year old with no idea how to teach swimming. I can see paying that for a private teacher who is a certified lifeguard or instructor.

Swim Lessons?
My DD took lessons at the LA fitness on Hempstead turnpike through British swim school. This was a few years ago so not sure what the prices are now. She was there a while and didn’t learn to swim, but she has also taken intensive swim at camp the past 2 summers and isn’t really swimming so I can’t say it was a reflection on her teacher (who we loved).

Exactly. My kids went there for a few months and learned absolutely nothing. I spent $$$ and wasted hours of our time for the kids not to learn a thing. The teenage instructors just carry the kids around the pool the whole time, while chatting with the other "instructors".
This year, I found a certified instructor/swim coach through our local FB group that comes to our house once a week for private lessons. My kids learned more in a few weeks this year, than they learned the entire time at Safe-T-Swim.

Thank you everyone, glad I wasn’t the only one taken back by that price. Yowzers!
It’s for a 2.5 year old during the school year, the town pools start a little older. I didn’t know you could use the JCC if you weren’t a member, I looked it up and it’s much more reasonable, thank you!
Long Island Swim School is cheaper too (Syosset location specifically), any experience there?

Town pools. You can actually schedule 1 on 1 with a life guard.

14 year olds are not allowed to work in the state of NY so if your instructor was that young you should report saf t swim. The instructors I had there, and there were many over the years, were all over 18. They actually had to be because we did lessons during the day while any 14 year old was at school. I think 14 is way too young to be responsible for a young child that doesn’t know how to swim in a pool.

Not sure exactly where you are but people used to love the Glen Cove Y. I think they had an amazing program and it was very inexpensive.

Yes I guess you are right. No one near where I live will hire anyone under 15. That’s crazy. Of all the places one that involves pool safety should have a higher age requirement.
I would only schedule lessons during school hours to avoid this is possible or else find somewhere else.

I am not sure where you are located but my son goes to swim lessons at a local gym and I found the instructors there to be better than safe-t-swim. I pay $341 for 8 lessons.

Yes I worked at 14 with my working papers. You can legally work in NY at 14.

Yes I worked at 14 with my working papers. You can legally work in NY at 14.
Definitely do not think that you should be able to work with young children in a pool at 14. There should be laws against that. So dangerous.
