Housesitting Question
Let’s say you are looking around for a house sitter/pet sitter. You come across a student who is travelling around for three months. She is doing this by house and cat sitting.
Would you expect to pay this person even though they will be getting free accommodation in a pretty expensive city and right around Oktoberfest?
ETA: This person is on a tourist visa and does not have permission to work.

Re: Housesitting Question
OK, so for people that said yes:
You would expect to be paid in someone’s apartment while you get free accommodation that goes for around $2000-4000 for two weeks? Plus this person has no right to work.
I don’t know. Call me crazy but staying for free to feed two cats while I get free accommodation (especially whenI do not have my own accommodation anywhere near there) sounds like a fair enough trade and a super cheap way to travel.

I see your point but maybe I'd pay them less than I would a local who did it. Like a more nominal amount

Housesitting Question
If you found someone who was not in this person’s situation would you pay them? Unless you find someone local who will just pop into your home to feed the cats and then go back to their own home, anyone you hire will be getting free accommodation.

My next option is to hire someone to do a visit a day. I will pay for that because I understand that side since they already live and work here.
I offered the person I interviewed 50 a week for food and a public transport ticket. But there is a whole website devoted to travelers who do this for free. I think I found someone else who will do it as an exchange.
