Covid made these kids awful. Covid made parents give their parenting duties to an iPad. Not everyone but a lot. Never in my 23 year career in education have I seen such disrespectful and obnoxious behavior.

Yup. Because parents had to work and the state decided that schools weren’t essential.

Yeah I guess it depends a lot on how the districts handled it. Our district was back in person, full time for all the younger grades (K-6) in Sept 2020. I really don't think it had that much of an impact on them socially, especially since nothing changed at all outside of school. But I can see how it would impact kids immensely that had hybrid and distance learning for extended periods. And for parents that were pulling their kid out of every after school activity and not allowing playdates etc.

I do think that every once in a while there is an unusually bad class. Like, just that wrong mix of kids all put together. For my town it seems to be the kids in 8th grade now. They are complete animals.

Yup and these kids I speak of were interacting during the shut down of schools with one another. They all got together, had sleepovers, etc. Its not like they didn't see each other outside of school or when they were doing school at home.

It probably annoys you because it is other people's kids. In general, I find adults have less tolerance for annoying behaviors from children who are not their own. I can't speak to non stop, blood curling screaming, but I'd bet that is hyperbole. I would rather kids play outside and scream than be on the computer like zombies.

Oh gosh, I am the exact opposite. Other people's children do not bother me at all because they are not my problem. I barely even notice other people's kids no matter how misbehaved they are. But if it is my kid doing something wrong it is magnified by 100!

Actually no, I have more tolerance with other kids as I know I don't have to discipline them lol.

I am not saying I would rather have them inside on a computer and not even a fun scream here and there but the hours of screaming is just ridiculous.

Exactly. I always say, not my kid but when you are home and can't get away from it, it can get real annoying.

I don't know about immature, but undisciplined and unruly just seems to be the norm these days. I'm a family photographer, and I often leave my sessions just shaking my head at what goes on.

I think it's different though when you are socializing outside of school vs inside of school. i notice a difference, my kids were in 2 days (if that) until late Feb 2021, then 3... Finally 5 in April 2021. But they couldn't go near each other.
You can see a difference in socialization in younger ages.

These kids I am speaking of DID see each other the entire time though. It wasn't like they only saw in school. They did things on the outside.

Kids are LOUD, and parents celebrate it and cheer them on. Back on my day (haha) we were expected to be quiet

True. It used to be kids were to be seen and not heard. That might be excessive but a little discipline goes a long way when they are 16 and running amuck because you thought it was cute for them to be loud when they were younger.

100 Percent !!! The kids couldn’t go out and schools were shut down while parents have to work. What did we think was going to happen?! It’s not the kids fault, it’s the middle aged people putting all of these rules in place. Why is everyone is surprised by this bad behavior now?

There’s a video of this teacher saying his class is really difficult. They’ve had parents catering to them , helping them and answering to them day in and say out for over a year . Now they are in a class with 30 kids making the whole situation in classrooms impossible

My kids were home for over a year, we moved to an area where schools were open and they had to play catch-up for a almost a year because they were that behind.

It’s not going to change. It’s too late by 16, these kids are who they are. My kids are super quiet because I didn’t raise them to be insanely loud

Nope, it is not just you. There is no reason for it as honestly if these kids get hurt, you would never know.
