Trip during the holidays

Has anyone gone away for the holidays? I am looking for some ideas for an extended weekend trip.

Re: Trip during the holidays

I have but not anywhere close to NY (Namibia and Austria). It was great to go away and not have to fly to see family where they just made me cook anyway.

Trip during the holidays

Favorite time to travel. Usually a cruise but Florida this year due to the time we booked it. We do an ‘early Christmas’ before we leave and it’s just so so nice to be on vacation at that time.

We go skiing right after Christmas. We have never been away on Christmas because my kids are still young and I feel like they would hate missing out on the Christmas morning experience.

Re: Trip during the holidays

We've been to Boston, DC and Philly during holidays. Kalahari too.

Love DC during the holiday break. So beautiful and all the museums are free you can go to. We found the hotels cheap on the weekends bc they are mostly business hotels busier during the week.

Boston is great too! So much to see and do.

Always depends on the weather. One year we did Kalahari, which is perfect bc it's all inside and you don't have to leave the hotel and worry about bundling up.

Have fun

Re: Trip during the holidays

We have gone to Kalahari in the past during Thanksgiving. I looked into it this year, but the prices were insane. We used to get a good deal many years ago.

Years ago we did Camelback over xmas break and it was crowded but a lot of fun. Camelback was like great wolf but you also had the option to ski.

We went to Camelback last February break and I will never, ever go there again during a break. The crowds were insane, they were severely understaffed (BTW I complained to them right afterwards and they responded to my complaint in August just to give you an idea of how understaffed they are LOL) and everything was like a cash grab. It cost us over $2500 to go there for 2 nights (including skiing).

That's why I can't justify going to Great Wolf. They want 3x more for 3 days at end of Dec for what I just paid first week of Sept. It's insane and I can only imagine the lines.

Yes - a lot of places are crazy and pricier over breaks.

Hershey is open over Christmas break - I cant imagine it being super crowded as its outside - but I have never gone. We did go at Thanksgiving once and it was nice.
