At what age do you stop sending out cards with photos of your kids?

My DD is 7 and I feel like we’re nearing the end. She’s an only child and we don’t have any pets so it’s just her in the picture.

Re: Card spinoff

My parents were big on the photo cards of me and my sister back in the day (not professional pictures, just a picture they liked from the year- summer vaca or whatever) and I want to say we did it until about 12 or so?
So my sis would have been younger.
I don't remember exactly though. I do remember one when was about 12 and she was 9.

My DD is 12 and I just sent one. I get a yearly photo shoot of her for my own purposes- to have in frames at home and to watch her progress over the years and that shoot is in the fall so I use a pic from that for my cards.

I thought she'd have given me a hard time this year but she loved picking the wardrobe to go with the set and getting her hair done for it. She's a ham. Chat Icon

People go nuts for it every year and actually tell me they wait for it each year so I'm glad I've done it this long.
Not sure how much longer I'll do it but I'm glad I did it this year .
I actually like getting photo cards - of kids, pets, whatever- I find it more interesting than a plain card so as long as you want to do it, I think you have at least a few more years

My kids are almost 13 and 10 and I still do photo cards. Friends of ours with older kids do too.

Like Nell - I prefer receiving a photo card as well.

My DD is 10. We’ll keep doing the cards until she tells me she doesn’t want to do them anymore.(I get a JC penny Groupon for a session and the cards every year) But the way my daughter loves the camera she’ll be doing them forever! Lol.

My parents and ILs still send out a photo card with their kids.

I think if you have a nice photo there is no age limit.

My MIL sends out a card with all of us on it (including her 2 grandkids and always puts pics of all of our dogs on the back) it’s usually a pic from a bday dinner for her bday in September

I just got a card from a friend with her 15 & 17-year-olds on it. Next year the oldest will be in college, so I wouldn't be surprised if she stopped then.

None of my other friends with kids older than 7 have stopped, which does surprise me, because I thought they wouldn't want to be bothered, but usually they are a casual picture or collage form throughout the year.

My daughter is 14 and I wanted to stop with the photo card, but she wanted it, so we did it. I had gotten a Groupon for a JC Penney photo shoot. We took photos in October for her Confirmation, so I used one of those photos for the Christmas card.

My kids are 23 and 19 and I am still sending a photo card this year. We managed to take a nice family photo over thanksgiving break and that's rare so I'm using it. Over the last few years, I have used cute photos of the dog.

I think more adults are doing the photo cards. One family had a photo of the couple and their two adult sons. It was nice because they put a brief note on what was happening with each. For example:

John - retired this year and enjoying golf
Mary - still working, but enjoyed traveling to Paris this year
Joe - working and traveling with friends
Bill - in grad school and enjoying life

The photo cards are actually easier because you don't have to sign it or write the "Dear ---" on it. Yes, they're kind of impersonal, but since everyone does it now, we're all used to it.

I know this is nuts but I only order folded photo cards on paperstock (not the shiny photo paper) so I can write inside them. I have them pre print a greeting inside the card and prepint the Love, The Xxx Family. but I leave room at the top to write Dear....,
And then at the bottom I write something quick like Have a wonderful holiday season, looking forward to seeing you on Christmas....or something short like that.
It makes it more personal and I don't mind doing it since my list is short.

Re: Card spinoff

I'd say tween/early teen makes sense to stop with only kid pics.

It's not that I mind the cards with only kids, but I personally love seeing photo cards with entire families, and there is no age limit for that. I love watching families grow and change through the years.

Yeah - some of my aunts and uncles send pictures of them and their grandkids, etc.

I find them both personal and impersonal at the same time - like the regular greeting cards I receive get thrown in a box - and the photo ones get displayed...

Re: Card spinoff

I used to think that once the kid was into double digits, it's time to wrap it up. But now that I have seen how much easier it is to slap a pic on a card and not have to write anything out, I may be one of those people that sends cards of my kids until I die. However, what I will never do is jam 18 pics on a 4x6 card. I can't even see who it is! Just pic one, okay maybe 2-3, and call it a day. I don't need to see the year in review including the dogs and the cats. Not that you can see it anyway. Maybe Santa will bring me a magnifying glass for next year Chat Icon
