Question about shopping for tile
Do you think the quality of tile is better from places such as Cancos, The Tile Shop, Procida, etc. versus Home Depot or Lowes?
I picked out tile for my bathroom from a shop over the weekend. I just went to Lowes and there is something very comparable for 1/2 the price. I just don't know if there is a difference between tile that's $5.99/sq ft vs. $2.19/sq foot. To me, a lay person, the tiles look and feel the same. They are both porcelain. Anyone have any insight on this?

Re: Question about shopping for tile
If there is a quality difference, I am sure it's negligible.
When DH redid our bathrooms I picked tile I loved from Lowe's. It's been 100% fine, 4 years in.
When we did our kitchen, our contractor sent us to Roma Tile because he has a deal with them. The tile was more expensive and looks great, but I see no difference in how it's holding up or anything like that.

Question about shopping for tile
Sometimes the width and weight might be a bit different but I have not had the difference to cause that much of an issue. I found tile that I LOVED for my kitchen at a tile store that was $75 a sq ft. Obviously my husband went nuts and I found the same tile at Wayfair for $24 a sq. ft. Same exact tile as I bought samples of each. Shop around and buy the cheapest.

Re: Question about shopping for tile
I had a huge issue with floor tile from Lowe's. Even though we searched through the boxes for the same lot #s or whatever they were, the tiles were not all the same exact size. When we went back to exchange some boxes and opened them in the store, same issue. Maybe it was just the tile we chose but it sucked. We ended up ordering more of the tile we used in a different room from Wayne Tile and it came in exactly as it should've. The tile we used from Home Depot was all good so I guess you really never know.

Re: Question about shopping for tile
We redid our kitchen @ 10 years ago. The backsplash tile was but I fell in love with it, so we bought it. The floor tile was a fraction of the price.
The grout on my backsplash tile needs to be redone because of kitchen moisture in those areas. My floor tile does not. The tiles themselves are each in excellent condition with no noticeable differences.

Re: Question about shopping for tile
We purchased tile for a bathroom from Lowes, as well as a tile store. Never saw the difference in quality.
