You should check your local florist/nursery; that's where we got ours (Queens). However, it's pretty $$$!

I don't know if it matters of not, but our hospital advised us not to place anything on the lawn indicating a new baby and to not place an announcement in the paper because of baby abductions. (I know they're not common, but why take the risk?)

Re: Stork for the lawn

I have had one for both my children and they were $75 for about 5 days.

I have heard about the baby abductions but that did not stop me. They now have a peice of the stork with their birth info and names on it and it is something special to them and me. I would do it again in a second.

I don't get thisChat Icon People shouldn't leave their baby alone so how could someone abduct your baby?

Anywho. We did it and it was $65 for 5 daysChat Icon I was so excited. My IL's got it for us. I have always knew I wanted one when we had a baby. I love the attentionChat Icon We got to keep the sign with his name on it and it is now hanging on his door.

Where do you live? I live in Massapequa Park and there's a local florist that gives them for free to MP residents. Im not into them so I never got one for my kids' births but free is very cool. Maybe other towns have this too...I find it hard to believe that only one florist does this.

We had the same one. I think I got it from a flyer at BRU. I didn't worry about child abductions because my daughter never left my side.

I don't want to hijack this thread...but your baby doesn't have to be left alone to be abducted. People will do some crazy stuff to have/get a baby. (Maybe it's just the cynic in me coming from a family in law enforcement.)

Not trying to hijack, but regardless of whether you have a sign on your lawn or not, like it or not, people are going to notice you have a new baby. I understand that people do crazy things, but I would think the first few days that a baby is home is the least likely time somebody would try to take a baby from you. This is when you have the most visitors and people are going into your house day and night, etc. Just adding my two cents.

I'm pretty sure you can also rent storks through BRU. I saw a sign when I was there the other day.
