Im taking him to the vet first thing in the morning.

Re: Anal gland

It sounds like it needs to be "expressed"
(popped).

It really shouldn't hurt. My cat had it done and he was fine.

Thanks....I hope he doesnt "cry"...He does that as soon as he sees the vets office and he tends to be a drama queen when he's being examinedChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anal gland

Our rottweiler needs hers cleaned out regularly....

she'll lick herself, leak, her farts stink!, and she'll throw up.

You can tell it's their anal glands that need cleaning if it smells....it's got a distinct odor very different from pee.

Re: Anal gland

oh man, jess, its gonna hurt him. i wont lie...... but dont worry, its only hurts for a second. dharma had that; an infected anal gland or whatsohaveyou.
same exact thing... the scooting, etc.

they have to drain it. it hurts them but only for minute (i suggest not being in the room when they drian it)

lady d went through that, but she is ok now. please just get him to a vet asap. you will prob have to use a soak on his butt. (every day twive a day for 15 minutes) but in hte end he will be OK.

dharma sends her Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon s. shes been there.

fm for any Q's, or my #.
its a serious matter.
xoxo

Re: Anal gland

usually once they get the red bump on their butt it is infected.

they usually should be extracted once the dog starts to scoot

Not all dogs have the problem, some do and some don't. My dobie used to always get swollen anal glands and the vet ended up showing me how to expell them myself so I didn't have to keep coming back. It's not that big of a deal if your dog tends to get swollen glands and only takes a second to expel. Its kind of gross though and you have to do it outside.
Thank God Misty doesn't have any anal gland problemsChat Icon
