Sacrificing for the baby that doesn't even exist yet!

I just made an appointment to have my 2 remaining wisdom teeth pulled. The other 2 that I needed to have out got infected about a year ago and had to be removed and I am just worried about that happening while I am preggo and either having to deal with the pain or having them pulled without being knocked out. Funny how I am putting myself through this for the future baby. Chat Icon

omg -- I was thinking the same thing. I have to get mine out too, but I'm too scared. Does it hurt? I'm a BIG chicken when it comes to pain. And I"m scared of getting the gas and not waking up.

It does not hurt, and honestly I felt a gagillion times better once they were gone. i did not even realize that they were irritating me until after they were outta there.

ETA: DEFINITELY take care of your teeth. There is a ton of new research out that even the earliest stages of gum disease or oral infection can travel through your bloodstream and affect your other organs.

Re: Sacrificing for the baby that doesn't even exist yet!

I had 2 out last year and not only did it not hurt, I was awake for it.
He just numbed the heck out of me and did it.
I wanted it that way because I don't react well to drugs. I felt no pain at all and after the novocaine wore off I was shocked that I really had no pain.
I didn't even need to take the prescription pain meds he prescribed.
Mine weren't impacted so I am guessing that is why it was so easy.

If you are scared, stay awake. I did for that exact reason. Let me tell you- it was not bad at all- you are so numb you don't feel a thing- just some tugging and pulling.

I had to have out one- and I got ALOT of novacaine and it really was not that bad. Like it was stated- a lot of tugging and pulling. And I am dental phobic and I am saying it is not that bad. I break into sweats in the dentists office. Then I went home and relaxed, the next day I think I ate apple sauce, and egg drop soup.

I would say it doesn't hurt, but afterward it can. My uppers were a piece of cake (taken out after infection also). My lowers were removed first, years before and they got the dry-socket issue...that hurt. But like anything it gets better and drugs helped. If your worried and your doctor is willing to remove them it might be worth the trouble.

Re: Sacrificing for the baby that doesn't even exist yet!

I was totally knocked out because in case they had to break the tooth in half to get it out, I didnt want to hear it. But they gave me vicodin for the pain, I took a 1/2 of a pill and it did nothing after 30 minutes so I took the other half and still no pain relief. After 4 hours of talking on the phone, I noticed it didnt hurt anymore and I ate peaches and cottage cheese.

I'm in the 2WW and woke up with a wicked headache...I'm suffering through it because I refuse to take anything.

I understand! Chat Icon

Re: Sacrificing for the baby that doesn't even exist yet!

That's my exact problem right now. I have 2 left, one with a cavity. It seems impossible for me to get an appt but now I am TTC.

So I am kind of stuck. I can't use anesthesia

Definitely worth it to deal with ALL dental issues, even if you are TTC already. I had a couple cavities, a broken tooth and a couple fillings that had fallen out. Chat Icon It was a few rough visits but when you are pregnant you will be able to relax and not be anxious about your teeth.
